First confirmed case of coronavirus in Rhode Island. Guess it was inevitable. Tourist just returned from Europe who was in contact with about 40 people, which in RI might as well be 500 people since we're all shoved into a 1200 square mile area. This should be a fucking treat. Anybody else on virus watch?

I heard something on the radio a couple weeks ago about someone in Madison confirmed.
I'm concerned, mostly for other people, because I usually keep to myself and hardly ever go out anymore. It's worrying, especially since the Pumpkin in Chief seems to understand less about it than the Gap model he just made DHS head, but there ARE people recovering.
Maybe this video will help.

At the library where I work at, the city council and our director has given us direct orders from the PA DeH on COVID19. It's the usual stuff about hygiene and if you all feel sick or get sick, take care of yourself and stay home. It sounds obvious, but remember, I'm working with the public on a regular basis and there's a buncha people who feel working through an illness is a badge of honor... Not to mention people who think hand washing is optional. So yeah... I'm PROBABLY gonna get this.

there's a buncha people who feel working through an illness is a badge of honor. To be fair, a lot of the time, people can't afford to stay off when sick. It's not as bad over here, where mandatory sick leave is a thing, but it still pops up. So yeah, a lot of those people are getting left with no choice. Yay for capitalism! We're gonna fucking die...

We're gonna fucking die...Oh I know, and you're absolutely right. But I should point out that I'm the second youngest at the library, with the youngest being my wife's age at 39. There's this mentality the older ones have that HAS to be generational. I mean, we have this one person there, when she broke her leg and couldn't walk... She STILL came in and tried to do her job, and had to have the Burrough Council tel her to GO HOME AND RECOVER. My job is actually really cool with illnesses and stuff. (Public service job and all.) But still... That mentality I mentioned.

My company has canceled all non-essential business travel. One of the big things is the quarterly onboarding and business review, where new employees go to get fully introduced to the company concurrent with all the execs being in one place for the QBR. It's pretty dope, actually, they serve really good food. We got crab cakes and all kinds of shit when I did it.
Unfortunately the two new guys on my team and our new manager get fucked because that is no longer happening, and instead they'll be doing it all via teleconferencing.
Good news is, despite us having offices in multiple countries (including Japan, Singapore and Australia) we have no cases within the company so far.

As a highly-functioning germophobe I’m actually kind of enjoying this so far. Everywhere I go I’m seeing more and more bottles of hand sanitizer, cans of disinfectant spray, disposable gloves on retail and food service workers, and an emphasis on basic hygiene and hand washing. I feel like I’m actually more protected from the horrible filth humans spread all around the place every day all day.
It is going to suck when this starts to impact commerce and the economy due to goods not moving from overseas and people not going out to spend money, but if society slows down for a few weeks we might even lessen the impact of the regular Flu this year.
Still, if I manage to get this thing, I’ll have to quarantine myself because my Wife can not afford to get it with her preexisting health issues.
All that being said, I do think that this is a lot of media hysteria over something that's not that much worse than any of a dozen other “epidemics” in recent history. But hey...keep us scared and riled up so we keep giving out those clicks and pageviews.

Thing to remember though? Hand sanitizer is antibacterial... Not antiviral. Keep those Clorox wipes handy.

Thing to remember though? Hand sanitizer is antibacterial... Not antiviral. Keep those Clorox wipes handy. Got some wipes and Lysol to keep at my grandmother's place. I'm also not going nuts but I am buying some extra groceries for her and my dad to keep on hand in case it starts to hit here. Not as concerned for myself but when it comes to my dad and grandmother and the virus being rougher on older people and those with medical conditions, I am not about to take any chances.

Thing to remember though? Hand sanitizer is antibacterial... Not antiviral. Keep those Clorox wipes handy. And remember to wipe down your phones and keyboards often and vigorously, and don't touch you face, specifically the "T" area between your eyes and mouth. It's funny that you say that about hand sanitizer as the supply has been blown out everywhere. Amazon actually had to crack down on third party sellers that were selling that, and surgical masks, at inflated scalper prices.
