Seems like the people who are taking this hardest are doing so because of a hit to their nostalgia. Regular TRU shoppers are, in large part, mildly inconvenienced. And that's TRU's bankruptcy in a nutshell.

and ToysRUs.com is officially shut down. When you visit their site as of yesterday, a pop up box appears: The site is still searchable though and they still have the Add to Cart buttons but when you click it, the same pop up box with the above message appears again. Kind of nitpicky, but I wish they would have just made the page redirect you to a simple page with the above message or just automatically redirect you to the aforementioned goodbuytoysrus.com instead of still being able to see and search the main site. I know I didnt use TRU.com much but it makes me sad to still see it up and not be able to buy something.

It was a crapshoot to begin with. Wish it had worked though.

Killed a bit of time at the local TRU yesterday, picked up a couple things for my newest niece for this Christmas, and a Power of the Primes Swoop that may end up on eBay. When I checked out, the sight of the Dinobot toy influenced the cashier to tell me that another store in Pleasant Prairie (that I think is done as of the 19th, if I heard her correctly) was sending in their merchandise, so there may be more Transformers on the way. That seemed to tell me the one I go to might last through the month.
Though, honestly, I can't think of anything I'd want for myself (and not selling on eBay later)...shy of a heavily discounted console, but I doubt the Prairie store would have any left, either. And even if they did, they'd probably be 5% off like when liquidation started (or at best, 10% off).

So, finally went to my local TRU, saw the sales and such...and there's just not anything I really wanted.
Even stuff that I might have wanted was only like, 30% off at most, which makes me wonder why they're avoiding undercutting even further. With it literally going out of business, you'd think you'd see deeper cuts to get rid of inventory, but instead it's mostly just like a particularly limp Black Friday sale.

Yeah I don’t know the business particulars, but there’s gotta be a reason. That’s kinda been my experience too, the last few times I’ve been in. Looking for the big discounts, but honestly not seeing much I want anyway. Have been picking up a few things for my kids though.

This is just my guess, but I think they're holding off on the big, big discounts until closer to final opening days. With stuff at 30% off (or up to 40% off at my local one lately) may help recoup losses better than making everything 70% or more off.
(Side note, I wrote the above in the Quick Reply, hit the Reply button after forgetting for a moment that it went to the advanced reply, but the text stayed. Neat feature!)

I was thinking they might have been holding off on the big discounts in hopes of finding a good buyer (good in their terms since they keep turning the MGA guy down) or they want to make sure all their warehouses are cleared out before starting the steeper discounts.
My last visit to a TRU was middle of last month and except for the out of business and discount signage it looked about the same as it always did for me. Bunch of overpriced stuff that I really had no interest in. But I did manage to find a Studio Series Thundercracker so I picked him up as a memento of possibly my final visit there.
