So apparently VII-R Intergrade has arrived on Steam before I could actually get a PS5 (hits tomorrow) Also interesting is "FFVII Evercrisis" which seems to be some weird mashup of the classic FFVII and Crisis Core with chibi map sprites and upgraded dialogue, but battle animations on par with VII-Remake, just with the classical battle system... and it's for iOS and Mobile. God *damn* it, Square! Also, Crisis Core remake/remaster? For all platforms. And finally, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Winter 2023. Here we go again.

You beat me to my own nerdpost! Yep, I already pre-wishlisted the PC version on Steam. Won't pay full price but if it hits a good sale, yeah I'll grab it. I'm SUPER pumped Crisis Core is finally getting some love and not forever locked on the PSP. And Ever Crisis seems to be the game the fanboys wanted, it very much seems to be the PS1 original FFVII with better graphics and "expansion packs" based off the Compilation stuff. I'm absolutely positive some of the map layouts in the trailer (Mt. Nibel, Reactor 5, the Shinra Building) are 1:1 recreations of the original game (also you fight Motorball on foot like the original instead of on the bike). Yes, I've played it that much. Do hope it sees a console (at least Switch) version, but if the mobile stuff is just cosmetics, I won't care much. Those do seem to be inspired by the other FF games though - Tifa's costume looks an awful lot like Rinoa and Aerith's looks a lot like Yuna's wedding dress. I am excited to see where the main one goes.. definitely looks to be implying there's some time traveling shenanigans as some theorized.

I'm kind of wondering if it was literally built to be a bone tossed to the fanboys intentionally. "ReVII is gonna go gonzo and give you that alternate save Aerith craziness that folks wanted, but for classicists, here's everything with fancier graphics and no real gameplay changes at all beyond bugfixes".

I don't care if Aerith dies, she just needs to not take her Materia with her.

I've had the same thought/suspicion, and honestly, I'm cool with that. I don't care if Aerith dies, she just needs to not take her Materia with her. I'm the asshole that strips characters I know are leaving me nekkid if the game doesn't auto-unequip them and I know I can complete the dungeon/boss fight/etc without them, so I feel this* *Oh boy did this absolutely SCREW me in FFII Soul of Rebirth!

Part Two, official titled Rebirth now has a trailer and a release date of early next year. Seems to imply it does still have something of an overworld, so I'm curious to see how that'll play out. And Red is playable, that makes me happy. But by the time this thing is done it'll span three fuckin console generations at this rate.

So, watching that trailer, my thoughts were as follows:
- So we're seeing some weird sort of AU stuff where the Whispers actually killed the party on the overpass? - Elena's nice. I like getting to know the Turks like this, really. - So, Tifa is implied to be a Jenova replacement. Like, no. It's not happening. Even with an AU, I don't see them turning the main heroine into a shapeshifting alien tentacle monster. That said, Sephiroth fucking with Cloud via mindgames was canon, but the big one (Cloud isn't a SOLDIER) is so common knowledge now, it's not really a twist. So instead they pick up on this one, which is a new sort of mind game and also plays on the Carpenter's The Thing aspects of Jenova that never really got super explored in FFVII (they mention it in the backstory of the Ancients, but mostly it's used to justify Sephiroth's continual presence when his body's stuck in the crater). Adding that level of paranoia could make for some interesting edges to the existing plot.

So. Yeah. Just inject this directly into my fucking veins.
Even the stuff I really didn't expect to see in the remake is in there.
