I know the Den isn't as busy as it usually is but I figure I would post this question anyway since I am getting nowhere else online.
I have an Emerson 55" TV lf501em4a. I have been able to hook up my chromebook to the TV via HDMI and it would play just fine. But as of late, I suddenly have an issue with no sound coming from the TV when I have the chromebook connected. The picture is still clear when connected it's just the audio and none of the settings have been changed.
I double checked to make sure the audio on my chromebook was set to HDMI. I then tried different HDMI cables and different ports on the TV. Still nothing. I made sure the connections were good and tight and cleaned the HDMI ports on both the TV and chromebook to see if that was the issue but no dice. I then took my chromebook to another TV just to see and the picture and audio would work on it so I know it's not a chromebook issue. I tried to look up the issue online based on the tv model # and not much is coming up so I am currently stumped.

It's some kind of failure to negotiate. I have this sometimes happen just from switching inputs, or just because something went wonky when the device powers up. For me, restarting everything usually helps. If it's a smart TV, see if there's a way to actually turn it off and start it up again. A lot of those TVs actually just kind of "sleep" when you turn them off.

For me, restarting everything usually helps. If it's a smart TV, see if there's a way to actually turn it off and start it up again. A lot of those TVs actually just kind of "sleep" when you turn them off. I restarted the chromebook and that didn't work. I didn't have much saved on the chromebook so I even did a powerwash factory reset and even tried to reset the TV and it still didn't work...sort of. When I first hooked up my chromebook to the TV, I couldn't play anything through apps like Paramount+ or Discovery+ without the audio sounding jumbled and distorted. But I noticed when I would log in to the + sites themselves via Chrome, the audio would work. Then when I posted my issue above, I was trying to play the audio through the site via chrome again and that was when it wouldn't play. But I have now found out that when I try to play via the apps again, the sound not only plays but sounds normal. I don't know what could have happened to be honest.

I still think it's something about the HDMI negotiation. Like it's not handshaking the copy protection right, or versions don't match up, or something. I don't know anything in particular about Chromebooks though so I don't know what you'd do to fix it.
