So apparently there's this thing with video game callout signs in wrestling event audiences. Which brought up this.

Leading to this discussion, which is not the first time this has come up, but I kind of just laughed at.

Ryu the Depressed Cryptid — Today at 5:38 PM
From what I recall that is accurate
SINISTAR, EVIL SPACE FACE — Today at 5:40 PM
it is
good enough that it's a terrible sin what PSO did to the franchise
Alpharius — Today at 5:41 PM
the wrestling fan JRPG discourse is getting out there
OpMegs — Today at 5:48 PM
Amusingly, I got into Phantasy Star games through PSO: Blue Burst myself.
SINISTAR, EVIL SPACE FACE — Today at 5:49 PM
even as PSO widened awareness of the Phantasy Star name it took the heart of Phantasy Star as a franchise behind a shed
OpMegs — Today at 5:50 PM
I dunno. Friend of mine's a huge Phantasy Star fan and he loves PSO as well. He wasn't a fan of Universe, but that was more because it was a straight franchise reboot and most of the games since have been as well.
SINISTAR, EVIL SPACE FACE — Today at 5:50 PM
then why aren't we getting more turn based jrpgs?
Kyman201 (Not An Expert) — Today at 5:51 PM
Maybe because turn based JRPGs are more niche than you want them to be?
SINISTAR, EVIL SPACE FACE — Today at 5:51 PM
Sega took its child behind the shed and came back with a different kid dressed in that kid's clothes(which might have some blood spatter on them) and claiming it was the same kid
The Moose Is Loose — Today at 5:51 PM
like I can understand the idea of wanting more turn-based games
SINISTAR, EVIL SPACE FACE — Today at 5:51 PM
as a note, if PSO was its own side thing, I'd be fine, but it took over the identity
Kyman201 (Not An Expert) — Today at 5:52 PM
And how did the sales turn out?
SINISTAR, EVIL SPACE FACE — Today at 5:53 PM
hell, if they flat out just stopped the name Phantasy Star and made PSO a completely new franchise I'd be less angry
but ARPGs devouring Turn Based RPGs and wearing their skin is a hill I will die on before I budge an inch on
