I feel like the Core Class was designed, not just as a replacement for the Legend Class sizes but as a new experiment in class sizes. Like they're a natural evolution of what used to be the old Cyberverse/Legion classes, and maybe even the Scout classes from Cyberverse. (But you know... Actually transforming.) I wouldn't be surprised if that's what a future line (like whatever Cyberverse's successor) will be scaled at.

I think it's essentially, can we get Legend class functionality but with less plastic. Plastic prices are killing the toy industry.

Plastic hit a record high after Texas nearly froze to death. It's started to come back down, but I don't think it's back to where it was. And there was a big spike in the mid-2000's that it never came back from, which is why we've been seeing toy prices shoot up since then.

Kingdom Slammer: This is a really nice little toy. Like most of the COMBAT types, he splits up into parts to let you play LEGOs with your Transformers and drive certain anti-parts-forming people mad by his very existence. The tank is a more classical mobile gun tank-killer style with a fixed turret, and the robot mode is a chonky boy. My main nitpicks are his waist tends to want to pivot on the hinge a bit more readily than I'd like, and the pegs on his forearms don't quite firmly stick into the piece that forms the front of the tank turret firmly. Gravity is often enough to cause them to slip off. I got two much like I have the other Battlemasters (Cog, Sixgun, Brunt) and this did pop up on both of them. Not a huge detail, but something that detracts from the overall figure. 7/10 Shattered Glass Jetfire: This is a very individual opinion figure. I had the money for him and thought he was worth it, because the colors are great and I love the Commander Class Jetfire mold. Others might find him too pricey for not enough. I will note some of the mold tolerances seem to have shifted since the original version, so getting some pegs into slots is occasionally a little trickier than I had with Jetfire classic. But overall, as solid as the original one was with all the same play value. 8/10 SS86 Leader Slag: So this one was an impulse purchase, and I can't say I regret it. He is a leader class in a lot of ways, being a big honkin' boy in both modes. I'm impressed by the engineering changing up Slag to transform in a different way than his G1 toy while mostly being similar in appearance in both modes. There's a bit of cartoon styling here I'm not a fan of. I prefer black and silver faced Slag to red faced cartoon Slag. Also, getting him into dinosaur mode was a case where I couldn't actually jump steps, as doing bits in the right order was necessary to get the clearances for his ass to fold together properly. You think you can close the torso panels much earlier than you really can (they're nearly the last step). Overall a solid toy and a big boy in a Leader class that's become dominated by more complicated semi-Voyagers with extra accessories. Now I have to find a way to get Grimlock because if I got this guy and I get Sludge later, I'm gonna need to get all of them. Damn it.

Not a huge detail, but something that detracts from the overall figure. 7/10 I found a quick swab of nail polish on his pegs and it fixes him right up. Not even a thick amount, just a small coat, let it dry and his joints are tight as they need to be. And if you turn his treads upside down, so the treads stick about his shoulders... That blocks the waist from pivoting back. That said, can I mention how fucking amazing it is that we got a new Slammer toy? I mean, he's an original toy that's not a repaint of Warpath, and I hesitate to call him a retool. He's just a good, solid toy. I really wonder if the 'pull-apart' toys like the Weaponizers, Fossilizers and Modulators are easier to design than the others?

I figure they are since it's easier than trying to design a figure with a traditional transformation. Partsforming seems easier than having to make sure each panel, arm, leg, head or joint on a traditional design has to make sure it has a place to go in each form and fold or rotate in a precise way while staying connected and to make sure each piece has enough clearance to go into place without issue. Also glad my Slammer is not the only one with a jiggly waist. Overall, I really like him, especially his tank mode. My only other issue is the part that connects the cannon to the tank seems to peg in rather loosely but I have some floor polish that will fix that. I just hope they continue with these style of characters into the future. I especially want more Fossilizers. They remind me so much of a classic toy line I used to love called Bone Age which was very similar in parts forming dinosaur skeletons into other vehicles or bases.

I always tossed the cavemen figures to the side though since the Dinosaur skeletons were the real star. However, this is where my hatred of clear plastic started from since the bones where connected and disconnected over and over by clear plastic pegs. The line was released by Kenner so in theory, Hasbro should be able to re-issue or reboot the line dedicated to nothing but Fossilizers.

OK, I had no idea this existed and that makes me sad because it would've been right the fuck up my alley at that time. The dinosaur exhibit at the Maryland Science Center opened around that time, and I begged to go. Then got scared of the moving animatronic T-Rex and cried, but still
