Wait, so is this a recast like has had to be done with some of the G1 guys, or were they able to go back to an original CAD file or something to get new tooling made?

If my memory serves right... They didn't start using Autocad files for making these guys until the live-action movies. Prior it was made with old fashion sculpture and modeling. And I remember a story about how the original Basic Beast Wars molds were lost when Hasbro closed up shop on Kenner.
So I'm guessing they had to make a brand new tooling. It's not unheard of. Apparently the large majority of "classic" GiJoe and Star Wars vehicles were done like that. And even the current G1 Optimus Prime mold they use for whatever reissues they want is a newer one they made sometime in the late 00s.

OK, yeah. So they're recasts probably made from an existing figure, which means things might be slightly off (like my reissue Jazz's roof having never lined up right in car mode)
Though nowadays, I wonder if they can do a 3D scan of the parts which would give more accurate new tooling as opposed to doing an old fashioned physical cast.

That's a good question. I know it can be done... But I don't know if they've ever done it. Would be kinda cool way to get some of the old toys thought long lost, like the Monstructor/Dinoking.
I kinda wonder sometimes if they ever considered remaking the old toys, as they were... But withy modern posability. Like hat window for a head Ratchet, but with knees, elbows and all that shit.
