There's been an avalanche of news on Kevin Feige's plans to rule the entertainment world, let's break it down. This will contain news & rumors and possible spoilers.
Let's start with Disney+.
WandaVision premieres on January 15th. What we know: Wanda and a somehow alive Vision are trapped in a world that resembles old sitcoms. Speculation is that Wanda is having one of her famous breakdowns after the death of her brother, her country and Vision, and she's losing control of her reality-altering powers. We know this story includes Monica Rambeau, Jimmy Woo and Darcy Lewis. Speculation is that Wanda's break from reality splits open the multiverse which will be followed up on in the films. There's also rumors that Pietro will show up and that Wiccan and Speed will be born.
Falcon and the Winter Soldier premieres on March 19th. We know that Sharon Carter and Zemo return. Wyatt Russell plays John Walker who takes over the Captain America mantle. Not much is known about the plot but expect conspiracies. There will be a cameo by Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova.
Loki will premiere in May. Loki is using the Tesseract to travel around time messing with human history. He runs afoul of the Time Variance Authority and Justice Peace played by Owen Wilson.
The What If? animated series premieres in the summer. This series will consist of 10 episodes (all the live-action series will have 6). Jeffrey Wright narrates as the Watcher. A second season has already been ordered. About two dozen of the MCU actors will provide voices for their characters including Chadwick Boseman.
Hawkeye is filming now. This series is taking inspiration from the Matt Fraction run and will co-star Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop. Yelena Belova also makes an appearance in this series. What could that mean...?
Ms. Marvel is also in production now which will introduce Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan. Presumably this will be an origin story. Leaked photos from the set show that Kamala remains a Captain Marvel fangirl as in the comics.
Moon Knight begins filming in March for a 2022 debut. Oscar Isaac will be playing Marc Spector. Expect a classic Moon Knight approach with the multiple identities. I assume Bushman will be involved.
She-Hulk will also debut in 2022 starring Tatiana Maslany as Jen Walters. I would assume Mark Ruffalo will make an appearance. The story is said to focus on both Jen's adventures in law as well as the introduction of multiple Hulks. So we could see Ross go red or the introduction of Rick Jones or (more likely) Amadeus Cho. On the lawyer side of things we may get a Matt Murdock appearance played by, yes, Charlie Cox. It's been rumored that Feige wants to retain Cox, Vincent D'Onofrio and John Bernthal from the Netflix shows.
Dominique Thorne will play Riri Williams in Ironheart.
James Rhodes will protect Tony Stark's legacy in Armor Wars, the MCU adaptation of the classic 80's comic story.
Speaking of wars, Secret Wars will adapt that story into the MCU with Nick Fury and Talos continuing the story from Spider-Man: Far From Home. Expect a tie-in to Captain Marvel 2.
There will also be a Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special written and directed by James Gunn.
Now, the movies....
Black Widow is now set for May 7th - the basic plot involves Taskmaster and the Red Room. Florence Pugh will become the new MCU Black Widow going forward. Rumor has it that the post-credits scene will involve Yelena and General Ross. This, plus her cameos in F&tWS and Hawkeye is leading some to speculate that "Thunderbolt" may be putting together his own team going forward.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is set for July. It stars Simu Liu as Shang-Chi and Tony Leung as the actual Mandarin. The story is said to involve a Mortal Kombat style martial arts tournament.
Eternals has moved to November 5th. No plot reveals but we can assume this will be their origin story which involves the Celestials. Many of the Eternals from the comics will be gender and/or race bent to create a more diverse cast that includes Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Salma Hayek and Kit Harrington as the Black Knight. Winter is coming.
Spider-Man 3 - December 17th. OK guys, THIS is the big one. The original plan was to have WandaVision roll right into Dr. Strange 2, but covid rearranged the release schedule, so the multiverse...the Spider-verse...will show up here first. This movie will follow up on the reveal of Peter's identity and accusation that he "killed" Mysterio as well as probably introducing a multiversal Sinister Six. This will include the return of Alfred Molina as Doc Ock and Jamie Foxx as Electro. To help Tom Holland's Spider-Man, both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will swing in and bring Kirsten Dunst and Emma Stone with them. Charlie Cox will help Peter with his legal troubles and there's also rumor that DEADPOOL will pop in to man crush on Spidey. Assuming Michael Keaton and Jake Gyllenhaal return, that's four of the six, Will Thomas Hayden Church also come back? Will Kraven make a first appearance? Anything could happen in this one. Post-credits Miles Morales?
Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness will appear in March 2022 directed by Sam Raimi. It's speculated that Wanda will be the antagonist. We know that Xochitl Gomez has been cast as America Chavez and that they're looking to cast Clea. One interesting rumor for this one is that Kevin Feige is looking to cast some multiverse Avengers with actors who were looked at for MCU roles that they didn't get. For example, Emily Blunt as Natasha, Kevin McKidd as Thor and everyone's favorite Scientologist Tom Cruise as Tony Stark. Hoo boy.
Thor: Love and Thunder is set for May 2022. Here's another crowded one with Jane Foster returning to wield the hammer, plus Valkyrie and the Guardians. Initial rumors mentioned the High Evolutionary and Beta Ray Bill, but the only villain confirmed is Gorr the God Butcher played by Christian Bale. Can't really picture him working with Taika Waititi and that cast, but maybe he's lightened up a bit.
Black Panther 2 follows in July. Obviously this one is being reworked but we'll probably see Shuri take over as Wakanda's champion with Winston Duke's M'baku promoted to co-lead. Rumor has it that a sequence using a non-speaking digital double for Chadwick will be created to explain T'challa's absence. Kraven the hunter has been rumored as the villain for quite some time.
Captain Marvel 2 is set for November 2022. No details yet, but considering Secret Invasion it will probably involve Skrulls. If we follow the Young Avengers bread crumbs we may also get the introduction of Hulkling.
Guardians of the Galaxy vol 3 won't get started until James Gunn is done with the Suicide Squad and the cast wraps the Thor movie.
Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania will see the whole cast, including teen Cassie, return. Jonathan Majors has been cast as Kang the Conqueror.
No further news about Blade besides the casting of Mahershala Ali.
Fantastic Four is on the schedule. No further details announced yet.
While we're at it, let's look at Sony's plans since they're such good friends with Marvel now.
Morbius starring Jared Leto is set for March 19th 2021. Venom 2: Let There be Carnage will follow on June 25th with Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady, directed by Andy Serkis. Olivia Wilde will be directing a Spider-Woman movie featuring Jessica Drew. Into the Spider-verse 2 will be released in October 2022.
