Honestly the terrible cut scenes were part of what I loved about the SCD version. They're up there with the god awful voice acting in the first couple Resident Evils or Castlevania: SoTN for "so bad it's good" camp I remember thinking MC was kind of mediocre, but the Spidey license still made it kinda fun. Robocop and Terminator was way better than it should have been for a "crappy licensed game". I don't think I ever played the SNES version, but I do remember the reviews all saying the Sega version was better.

I don't think I ever played the SNES version, but I do remember the reviews all saying the Sega version was better. Beat'em ups do get mediocre and monotonous after a while. At least the controls and hit detection were smooth which did help alot (especially being an LJN game). They did a sequel to it as well called Seperation Anxiety. Now that game was not only mediocre, it was downright crap and sometimes almost unplayable. Perhaps a better beat 'em up would be TMNT Hyperstone Heist. I think my brother and I wore out at least two copies of that game over the years since it's release. It wasn't the arcade or In Time but it was close enough. I was looking up to see if some new info about the Genesis Mini 2 had been released. Some more Japan titles were announced but nothing else for the US release thus far. One article I read did have me scratching my head about the price though. In Japan, the Mega Drive Mini 2 will be $75 US (after conversion) but the Genesis Mini 2 on Amazon is $103. I'm hoping that is just a pricing error. As much as I love Sonic CD and a few of the titles already announced, unless they really hit some homeruns with the rest of the games, I just don't know if I'm going to get it, especially with a $30 mark up between Japan and the US.

From what seems to be the case, it doesn't look like there is going to BE a western realease of it. Seems like Sega of Japan is handling the Genesis 2 as well as the MD2, so we're basically paying the import markup. Which definitely means I'm not doing anything until I know the full games list, and will only be pulling the trigger if they're truly special.

Seeing as how the first Genesis mini didn't sell quite as well in the US (even getting clearanced out as low as $20 in some Walmarts), it wouldn't surprise me there not being a true US release. On the flip side, if what you say is true, I can see this being a little more limited release. If this suddenly becomes hot, I can also see it becoming a huge pain to get if not on board with a pre-order from the get go. I went ahead and pre-ordered but at least I can still cancel if the full list doesn't thrill me.

Has there been anymore title updates for the Genesis Mini 2? I've seen some for the Mega Drive Mini 2 in Japan but I don't know if it will be the same or if they are going to do a separate list for the US.

Not that I've seen. Official page still shows the initially announced batch. I'm holding out hope that Sega can somehow get the okay to use the localizations Working Designs did for the Lunar games and Popful Mail, that alone would justify the cost for me. Also, show Dark Wizard some fucking love, Sega. Strategy RPGs are getting a second renaissance in the past few years beyond just Fire Emblem, and Dark Wizard went hilariously under the radar even back then.

arstechnica.com/gaming/2022/07/sega-genesis-mini-2-will-be-in-much-shorter-supply-than-original/?amp=1Interesting article that seems to confirm your theory GS that Sega of Japan is handling the Genesis 2 US release. Also seems to back my guess about it being more limited as well with a production run of about 1/10th that of the Genesis Mini 1. So if/when it sells out, that will be it. I'm glad I went ahead and pre-ordered. But I'll still wait for the final game list before ultimately deciding to keep or cancel.

Yeah I saw that today and had the same thoughts. Hopefully we'll get a final games list soon though, I hate being on that "maybe" fence, especially when it's gonna be pricey.

Is it possible that the Mega Drive and Genesis 2 might have the same games (and both Japanese and English versions) this time since there is no true US release? Also I've beem keeping an eye on the listing and they price is fluctuating to the USD to Yen rate. Im locked in at $103 but Ive seen it at $102. It's now $106. If I cam catch it under $100, I might cancel and reorder.
