So been watching this since the premier and just... damn. I watched 00 as it came out and that was a ride, but then kinda fell off (I haven't seen the Build Fighters animes, AGE, or Iron Blooded Orphans).
But this definitely got me interested with the teaser and the prologue episode... and it's a really good show?
Episode 6 just dropped with our final reminder that, fuck, yes, this is a Gundam show despite the high school setting. And I'm just freaking jazzed. This is something I make sure to see the day it comes out each week, which is a rarity for me.
Anyone else following it?

Yeah, we've been watching Space Gundam Utena since the prologue episode and we're absolutely loving it.
I"m not sure, but i think Guel has made the fastest heel/face switch in a record time speedrun.

And now he's camping in the woods after being ejected from the dorms like Saionji. However one thing I do find hilarious is he's yet to win a match on screen against a named character, but there's no doubt Guel is a GOOD pilot. He gets surprised by Suletta in their first match, puts up a decent fight in their next duel despite having half his suit's systems trashed by the AI not knowing how to use them before he's allowed to pilot, and then gets torn apart by Elan and the Pharact, but still puts up a good showing despite going up against a Gundam in a glorified mook suit. Yes, he gets stomped every time, but it's not because he's a bad pilot. Hell, if you'd let him go at Suletta in the Daribalde from the start, with him being less blindsided by her bits, he probably would've done substantially better, but his dad can't help trying to cheat. That said, goddamn, that ending with Elan in the latest episode was fucking brutal.

Notice that the pose Suletta and Miorine are in when the title comes up is the same pose Utena and Anthy are in during their OP. I kinda think the similarity is either fully intentional, or they're at least acknowledging it. The one girl's name is Chuchu for chrissake The high school setting doesn't do it for me. The older I get, the less interested I am in watching shows about adolescent bullshit. Gundam shows know they have four quars to work with, and are usually a slow burn at first. This is probably just establishing the characters and their "normal" lives before they upend everything and introduce the real stakes. I highly doubt this whole dueling over the bride thing is just for bragging rights.

I find it funny that for all that it's presented as a high school, it's pretty clear the school itself is just an extension of the megacorps cold war between company powers. Like, the closest to a normal episode about normal school things is pretty much just to establish Suletta having a support group in place besides Miorine in Earth House (and still puts her in with them to give reason for establishing Earthian/Spacian tensions. Kind of unusual seeing the Earthians being the oppressed underclass in Gundam for once).
It reminds me a lot of Fire Emblem Three Houses where the entire point was "and remember when we all just had to worry about school things together, and now we're on opposite sides trying to kill each other?"

As we've been going along, we've been seeing that... Well, the entire social system here is pretty fucked up. About on par from what you'd expect Gundam to give us.

The head writer of Witch From Mercury wrote the novel adaptation of Utena. It is FULLY INTENTIONAL.

The death in question is a lot more... Intimate than the microwave cannon. And carried out by an unexpected character.
