So, I'll be frank. I've watched all of Cowboy Bebop, but long enough ago that I've forgotten bits of it and couldn't make immediate comparisons with the Netflix adaptation.
I watched the first four episodes of the Netflix show and while I do enjoy it and plan to see the rest, I seem to be in the minority as far as the loudest voices are concerned for not being offended by this show's very existence. And I feel half the time that it's because Transformers was my first fandom. We've had SO MANY reiterations of the classic formulas. Optimus and the Autobots vs. Megatron and the Decepticons. But this time they're cars. This time Megatron's a dragon and Optimus is a fire truck. This time there's super boost Pokemon Transformers. All over the place. It's also a thing with Bubblegum Crisis, an anime I enjoy, and I enjoy the reboot 2040 version as well for different reasons. FMA 2012 and Brotherhood don't negate each other's existence by having to have one be "superior" or "the BEST version".
And so while I definitely see some variation off previous bits in the first few episodes (Vicious is probably the biggest deviation as he's MUCH less composed and cold than the anime, while Faye is more notably selfless under her shell than she starts as originally), I genuinely find the show enjoyable to watch. It's less anime arthouse aesthetic, more Western action movie and while I appreciate people who were just like "why does this even exist when we have the original Cowboy Bebop?", I think that this is a fun romp that I enjoy watching and the fact the previous version existed isn't tarnished by this being around.
I dunno. Maybe I burned out all my fan rage at a younger age, but I just can't quite get why people are venting their spleens all over the internet over this. My cynical self says a combination of 'fan rage generates Youtube clicks' and the soothing brain-free validation of a hatedom circle jerk, but I just genuinely don't know.
