I think they realized just how much they needed GotG3 to set up the post Endgame Marvel Cosmic (despite the public face claims to the contrary) and probably shouldn't shoot themselves in the foot. Am pleased though.

From the rumors I've heard? The decision was decided long ago to rehire him back, like not long after it happened. And they only told Gunn to keep his mouth shut, go get another gig and that this one was gonna happen, but they had to bide their time a bit.
If you think about it, it makes a lot of sense. Gunn, while disappointed, kept quiet about it all. Bautisa was fuming and angry, every day, complaining about it... Rightfully so, I might add... The rest of the cast wasn't happy either. And then suddenly, everyone stopped saying anything. Even Bautisa. And now, five days before the date Fox officially becomes Disney's, after the Government approved the buyout... He's back.
I think they were lying low, waiting for this Fox deal to be finished, and then flip the alt-right, sexist assholes who caused this the bird. I'm sure the review bombing of Captain Marvel by the same assholes didn't hurt in making their mind up to announce this now.
And best of all?
We're not only getting a good GotG3, but a good Suicide Squad movie as well!

So apparently, the New Mutants movie that had been delayed over and over again, mainly to do reshoots to make it "scarier". Well, the reshoots never happened, with the buyout, the directors and actors are now out of contract. They literally only have two options now. Release the movie (either limited release or Hulu or something) as it originally was going to be... Or never release it.
On one hand, this might be a good thing, as we know Fox hasn't had the best eye for what makes a good movie and maybe the original director's cut of it is a better movie. On the other hand... Does anyone even care anymore now that Professor Mouse is in charge?

I know that personally, I barely care about what's happening in Dark Phoenix, because it seems like it's hashing the SAME PLOT over and over again. "Magneto starts out mostly on our side, noble but more extremist, until bam, twist midway and now he's the villain." They did it in First Class. They did it in Days of Future Past. They sort of did it in Apocalypse except he was brainwashed this time. And now they're going to do it when Jean goes to him about the Phoenix thing.
Michael Fassbender has remarkably charisma as Erik. But I wish they'd just take a chance and let Good Magneto happen full time, but it's basically the exact loop that was in the comics.

Does anyone even care anymore now that Professor Mouse is in charge? I'd actually like to see the finished product. These are all characters who have never been realized in live-action before, plus there's some good talent on the cast like Maise Williams. I've said before that I kinda liked how Fox was diversifying the X-franchise with stuff like Deadpool, the Gifted and Legion, so I'd be curious to see what a mutant "horror" film would look like. I know it's a moot point now, but even shitty films (if it is shitty) should get a chance to be judged by the public despite studio politics since a lot of folks put in a lot of time and work on them.

New Mutants was about the only non-Deadpool Fox Marvel movie I gave a shit about, so yeah, I wouldn't mind getting a chance to see it. The primary X-men Movies, if you told me I'd get AoA and Phoenix Saga movies and my reaction would be "..meh," 20 years ago..
