I dunno, Into The Spider-Verse might still have it beat. Yeah, I'm with you. Spider-Verse barely edges it out. But holy shit, Endgame was a huge payoff. As for the future of the MCU? I think it's safe to say that it involves the letter X, the number 4 and the symbol +. Don’t forget $ And I’d say that Spiderverse was the most like an actual comic book from beginning to end. Endgame was more like the entire concept and execution of comics in general Gonna change the thread title here so that we can start getting spoilery. Now that I’ve had a few days to really process what I saw, I’m ready to discuss

I knew Tony was dying thanks to an irresponsible tweet from someone... But it still got me. And as for a different kind of crying? Cap using Mjolnir.

And as for a different kind of crying? Cap using Mjolnir. I was in an extremely vocal theater, and I kept my mouth shut for most of the movie, but Cap wielding Mjolnir got a cheer from me. Also, when The combined heroes and armies started forming-up to engage Thanos' troops I did shout out "Say it. SAY IT!" And then he did

Saw it, really enjoyed it. Very much felt like a love letter to the characters, source material and fanbase. Couple of nitpicky things I could quibble on, but I left with a huge damn smile on my face and was satisfied.

Saw a morning showing, since it's three bloody hours...but it doesn't really feel long. A couple times I wanted to check my phone for the time, just to gauge the hour-point something happened, but not out of boredom (but my battery's been draining fast these days, so it up and turned off during the flick).
It was a great way to cap off the stories of so many characters that carried the MCU for so long. It felt like actual closure; endings for some, beginnings for others. I'm not a huge Marvel guy, and largely it's X-Men and Spidey, but one of the things I disliked about Ragnarok was Mjolnir's shattering, because it meant Cap couldn't wield it proper. Then I saw chubby-Thor summon it during The Dark World, just to check if he was still worthy, and wondered how odd it was he left with it. Man, the Thor still around in that timeline is gonna be wicked confused. But it wasn't until a few minutes after that, I think when we catch up with Rhodes and Nebula (or was it Nat and Clint?) that it dawned on me, "IT CAN HAPPEN! IT CAN HAPPEN!"
Then it happened! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
So many great talents on and behind the screen. Excellent job.

So, lots of things to unpack here.
1. Carol DID a few big things, but she wasn't really there. If I hadn't seen Captain Marvel first, I admit I would've been pretty in the dark about her as a character, though the movie doesn't really require that knowledge for the emotional beats to work because she doesn't really take part in them. She never reacts to Fury's dusting and never talks to him after he's revived. The "this time, you have me" was warranted but a touch too cocky, and the "there's a lot of planets out there that don't have you guys" felt like she could have been empathizing a bit more, but frankly Carol's solo movie has shown she's pretty terrible at acting friendly with strangers (she warms up to Fury and is pretty warm from the start with the Rambeauxs). If she's intended to be part of the 'new core' of heroes for post Endgame movies, they really need her to develop a better interactive chemistry with her fellow heroes than "did someone need a Deus Ex Machina? Because that's spelled C-APTAIN M-ARVEL".
2. I appreciate that they removed the Infinity Gems entirely. The modern comics keep coming back to them over and over again, and ever since Wanda destroyed the Time Gem in Infinity War, I'd figured that was the key to keeping the Infinity Gauntlet out of future works.
3. Thanos is also removed as a threat permanently, and I can't say that's a bad thing because he's as bad as the Gems at cropping up over and over. I do feel this movie was a little more heavy-handed in reminding you that Thanos is the bad guy. I didn't particularly think it was unclear in Infinity War, but apparently "THANOS WAS RIGHT!" people were a thing. This has a couple of scenes that make it clear Thanos' personal ego at being the ONLY one to figure out how to fix the universe and wanting people to be GRATEFUL for his vision is a driving factor. When those are challenged, he doesn't try to erase 100% out of pity for people who can't move on. He does it because he wants the applause for his glorious solution.
4. Referencing 1 and 3, was anyone else a little satisfied when Thanos popped the Power Gem and just gave Carol a straight punch that sent her flying like a ragdoll? After her basically being invincible to anyone else in a fight after removing her limiter, seeing someone fight on her level and get a good hit in was something I didn't know I wanted but enjoyed seeing. Again, future movies need to have people who can go toe-to-toe with her or the curbstomps are going to get boring.
5. On curbstomps that WEREN'T boring, Wanda coming this close to fucking soloing Thanos herself after Cap, Thor, and Tony couldn't got a damn near cheer from me. It also makes sense since Carol and Wanda are the two most directly empowered by some kind of Stone energy that they'd be able to take him on the most directly.
6. Thor is an entire mess that makes sense, but was a little bit disappointing at the end. After seeing his Infinity War intro, I was hoping for something similar, and he does put up a fight, but it just wasn't him in his prime. But the movie was packed as it was, and it gave us Steve with Mjolnir which was absolutely fantastic.
7. So, Quantum Tunneling is now an understood science with a tech base they can replicate. Gonna wonder how they limit THAT time travelling basket to prevent future uses.
8. Speaking of which, Steve's ending was perfect for him. I saw a lot online saying "OMG, Steve abandoned everyone", but my read on it turned out correct as the Russos confirmed he went back and branched off a timeline where he came back after WW2 and then came back to ours once Peggy died. If he'd just died, Steve's life would've been a series of getting smidgeons of what he wanted, then getting it ripped away because he couldn't stop heroing. This way, he finally got his peace.
9. Tony, on the other hand... it sucks, it does, but I can't say it's fitting. Time and again, they highlight that Tony can't stop going, can't stop trying to save everyone. Saving everyone in the biggest fight of forever? It's totally him. And... he got five years with Pepper and his little girl. I can be upset that he won't get more, but I can't say he didn't get anything. But maybe now he can finally rest. The bit with Pepper as he finally slid away was heartwrenching, but I can't say it was a bad decision, given...realities (If this were an actual comic or an animated series, I'd say it wasn't one I'd make, but movies rely on actors that can't keep running forever). However, I do like that this calls back to Steve saying that Tony could never make the big sacrifice, which he's spent movie after movie disproving. Pretty sure no one can say Tony Stark wasn't a hero now, and the wreath using the "Proof Tony Stark Has A Heart" shot was just...painfully perfect.
10. Captain Falcon is going to piss off a lot of people, the same way they jumped all over The Last Jedi for the "SJWs" ruining their stuff. I think Marvel has a larger overall fanbase that will be happy to see him get the shield, but it's gonna be a shitstorm eventually. And Disney+ TV series pilot for him and Bucky, yep. Wonder if we'll get occasional cameos from Old Steve.
11. Asgardians of the Galaxy. Chris Hemsworth said he was done with Thor unless the right script came along, and he seemed to enjoy himself a lot more in Ragnarok's wacky tone than in some of the other things in the MCU. He can DO serious and dramatic (see his scene with Frigga), but he LIKES being funny. Guardians 3 is a good fit for that, thematically, and they have a given plot hook with tracking down Gamora and seeing what Peter and she can make of things. Nebula has at least a slight interest in seeing her sister happy, though I do find it a little disappointing that Gamora's literally losing three movies of development, since 2014 Gamora never met the rest of the Guardians, and thus all the cute moments that resulted in didn't happen for her. The writer in me likes the dramatic potential, but the fan in me is sad to see the character replaced with another one who's identical but not.
12. That big Assemble moment. Just...perfect. I wasn't attached to the line, but the slow build up of Thanos' entire army, followed by everyone from Strange's portals... just...perfection.
13. The Time-Heist had a lot of snarky moments aimed at past segments but another Disney+ pilot in a moment with Loki escaping with the Tesseract. Also, I absolutely adored the shot across the bow at the stupid HYDRA Cap plotline from the comics with the elevator sequence.
14. Paul Rudd is probably the person who put in the best acting across the entire movie here. Ant-Man was a really well-done audience surrogate, and he was serious, he was funny, he was tragic at times. Rudd nailed ALL of it. It's also nice to see him regarded as a legitimate powerhouse, what with stomping Cull Obsidian and uppercutting a leviathan solo.
15. The girl-power shot was just this shy of being a little overdone, but too damn fun for me to really complain.
16. So how about that solo Black Widow movie now, huh? I personally felt all of this was a nice bit of stakes raising, and the minute I saw who they were sending to Vormir, I knew what was likely to happen. But I'm really confused how they're going to get more movies out of her. But looking forward to it nonetheless. Also, Nat looked better with red hair, and I like seeing the dye slowly grow out of it over the movie.
17. Disney+ pilot element again! We've heard rumors of a Hawkeye series, and well, he does have his daughter to train up and Wanda was chilling with him at the end, so it could tie into that Scarlet Witch one that's in the works. Interlinking shows is doable and I like that Clint and Wanda have had this dynamic since back in Age of Ultron, ever since his "You go out that door, you're an Avenger" speech. Clint I think could make a good mentor role since Steve's SUPER retiring, and Wanda could use a semi-parental figure. Plus you have all the sticky bits about her losing Vision, and Clint knowing her brother died saving him, and that leads to nice character moments a series can explore in even more depth than movies.
That's all I've got for now (I've got more, obviously, but can't think of them just yet), but damn that was a good movie, and a great capstone to the whole thing. I can't wait to see where we go from here.

So, lots of things to unpack here. Thanks for putting so much stuff in itemized list form for me to react to. 1. I think keeping Carol sidelined for most of the movie really worked. She's extremely overpowered and saving her for the middle of the final confrontation was the right amount of escalation. Plus, she was right. The universe is a big place and there are only so many Avengers to go around. Also noticed her little extra glance and word to Rhodes at one point. Wonder if something was going on during that 5 years between those two like in the comics. And speaking of the comics, I was way happier than I probably should have been by Carol's shorter haircut 2. Perhaps these gems will stay destroyed. Comics counterparts keep popping back into being. 3. As much as I love Thanos, I'm glad that this one is gone. He did still win in a way, but as the comics show, he never gets to enjoy his farm for long. Besides, the killing half the universe to obtain balance is such a flawed premise. Still...it does play into the whole "Mad Titan" thing. 4. That was just plain clever. 5. As with Carol, Wanda is usually pretty overpowered. Still, there was a lot of need for overpower in that battle. 6. I have a feeling we'll see the Odinson again. 7. Sounds like a job for Dr. Richards. 8. 9. Tony's story was never going to end any other way. I'll be sad to see RDJ gone and his character absent, but I'm excited as to where we go from here. 10. I liked Bucky standing by and giving Sam the nod. Almost as if to say "Yeah, I know I'm supposed to be Captain America first, but it's okay, you do it" to the comics readers 11. I'm still holding out for Soul World and Adam Warlock 12. I'm still impressed that they held off on it this long. 13. Back to the Future 2 is bullshit...and then immediately revealed to not be 14. Now that you mention it...Scott was pretty much a crux here wasn't he? 15. My thought during that was exactly "Oh coolohhhh...pandering." 16. See #11 17. This movie just proved that Hawkeye has been underrated this whole time.

Endgame just surpassed Titanic as #2 box office of all time. Another 700 million or so and it can dethrone Blue Pocahontas.
