Well if it's actually a ninja movie and not a GI Joe movie suddenly featuring ninjas taking up most of the plot, it might be decent.

Actually, if it's a full-blown origin movie following his story in the comics it could actually be really good, especially if it puts an emphasis on his commando skills and peppers in the ninja stuff a little bit near the end. That being said, if it's the typical "Snake Eyes is magic" story...then yes GS, it's the irritating impacted hemorrhoid you'd think it would be for me.

Well in fairness, if the Joe movies took any queues at all from Hama's run they could be pretty good in general. I think the success of the MCU shows that the over the top "comicy/cartoony" stuff CAN work if done well, so maybe this could go that route. But it's Paramount, of Bayformers and the other Joe movies. It'll be Magic Ninja.

The funny thing is that, before they got cancelled, the IDW GI Joe comics made this big deal recently out of Quick Kick beating Snake Eyes, because he's totally better and such because the author says so. And I learned that you can actually be more annoying than Snake Eyes' general Mary Sue approach of bad writers and such. Because Quick Kick would NOT SHUT UP about how he was the best at martial arts because he beat Snake Eyes. At least Snake Eyes was mute.

The funny thing about that run? I didn't really mind the general idea behind it, with the Joes taking on the more fantastical elements of the Hasbroverse, from Crystal Ball having actual psionic powers to the flippin' Army Ants (really?). Usually the Joe comics tend to lean more realistic, and unfortunately either don't lean realistic enough to be convincing, or just gets really stupid in politics. (Leaning both ways.)
I kinda miss the Devil's Due universe.

Yeah, Joe comics tend to be inconsistent as far as quality goes. Hell, even Hama hits his slumps here and there. But when you've been writing the same title for over 35 years and 250 issues, they can't all be winners. I loved the IDW Joe titles right up until they had a creative team shift and took the series from relatively realistic military and espionage comics into something closer to a sci-fi action series. The recent revival of stories inside the Revolution universe haven't been great either. Oddly enough, the limited series of GI Joe Vs. The Six Million Dollar Man is pretty darn fun. And I too miss the Devil's Due universe. I'm thankful that IDW was able to resurrect Hama's timeline, but I'd also be cool with the DD timeline being picked back up at some point as well.

My general problem with the post-Revolution GI Joe series was that you went from having Baroness imprisoned and her usual ice queen persona, to going stark raving looney as the new Cobra Commander around First Strike and afterwards. It was a personality shift that REALLY came out of nowhere. Then again, GI Joe's new writer didn't really pay much attention to continuity anyway, given he had Destroy showing up in his book after Destroy was captured and imprisoned on Cybertron as part of the First Strike event, so... There's a lot of debate about whether GI Joe should be inherently tied into TFs despite the given crossover events. Personally, I think it keeps coming across lately as trying to hitch their wagons to Transformers' relative longevity. I don't think it's a bad thing, but I generally liked Marissa and the various IDW EDC originals more than I liked the Joe imports. And I think Devil's Due was the one that gave me one of my favorite bits from Serpentor and Cobra Commander, around the time Serpentor formed the Coil as his own private army. Which was Serpentor demanding CC give him his helmet, only for Serpentor to be disappointed the Commander wore another mask under it. Then you get the line from Cobra Commander of "When they made you, they included genes from every great military commander in history. Except one. Me." And then the helmet explodes in Serpentor's hands because CC has the sheer balls to wear plastic explosives in his headgear.
