Well, clearly the solution is to increase exports to China. I can see the slogan now; "Fluids so good and juicy, you're begging your cousins for it!"

Ok, that ad's hilarious. Formula reselling (and outright theft) is a fairly common thing in the US too. That stuff is already obscenely expensive here. While I feel scalpers of any product are trash, I can understand the safety concerns too considering what's been found in other Chinese consumables in the recent past.

Never had a reason to buy formula so I guess that's why I never knew just how bad the prices were. But that is crazy and obscene for something like formula. Tide is locked up in your area Deino? I mean I guess I could understand the Tide Pods being locked up now considering people are actually eating those damn things but does that include regular Tide too? Also add the locked up items list: *Nintendo Amiibos *McFarlane Sports Figures *Diabetic testing supplies *Cold and Allergy Medicines (although this one is kind of obvious on the need for a lock up) *Nicotine Gum and Patches

Tide is allegedly used as sort of a "Hood currency" in that it's universally useful and a little pricey as far as these things go. So apparently it's stolen and then resold for cash or exchanged for drugs.
Whether this is true or not is still up for debate, but it doesn't stop certain stores around here from locking it up.

Are they scalping all the formula or just the varieties that are short-packed?

I'm guessing it has to do with import tariffs or somesuch. I can't speak to this example specifically, but I know with the cheap, prepaid smartphones (like the 50-100 ones you see at like walmart and target and the like), it's bafflingly cheaper for the phone to be made in China, shipped to the US on a container ship, distributed through the chain to the store, bought by someone, resold and shipped back to China via fedex or whatever... than just buying them in a store in China. The world is a fucked up place. But yeah, formula hijinks are a real thing. I remember our AP manager had to specifically assign one of his team to actually audit that stuff on a weekly basis it was so bad at one point a few years ago.

This topic is quite an eye opener for me. I always thought Australian children were raised on wallaby milk, Foster's and vegemite. Once again, pop culture has led me astray.

Wallaby milk and vegemite, yes. Fosters, hell no. That's a pop culture lie. Out of all the beers in this land, Fosters remains the shit only tourists ask for.
