Transformers collectors don't learn. Titans Return Grotusque was going for upwards of $150 after New York Comic Con. Currently still available at TRU for $25.

Heh. Kind of reminds me when I used to try and get Dragon Ball GT Final Bout on eBay, sometimes going upwards of $50 on bids and would never win, and just gave up at one point. Then after moving to Wisconsin, I happen to find a re-issued copy (apparently around the time Budokai 2 was released) at GameStop, for under $15.
I still dig my Skywarp repaint of that figure.

You know, I paid $25 for the Takara Car Robots versions of the Autobot Brothers... And yes, I could have waited a year later and got them way cheaper. I still got 'em and I still think they're awesomely worth it.

I remember RID Storm Jet but I was never fond enough of the mold to pay upwards of $50+ he was going for online. Then one day, I just happen to walk into a KayBee toys and there is one on the pegs for $12.99. ($12.99 doesn't seem like such a bad price now for a deluxe, but back then OMG KB markup! ) I never actually opened it though and last year I decided to sell it to clear some space. I started him off at $19.99 BIN and ended up dropping the price after 4 failed attempts to $7.99 when he finally sold.

For all we knew, it was another BW2/Neo situation. I have the Japanese versions of SFC, Gigatron, and JRX. I was just happy when they did jump the pond that I could complete the crew, even if some paint apps were different or whatever.

I'm not going to lie... I would love another Car Robots type of series again. Just make a few new exclusive molds, and take a bunch of NuRiD molds and make a new standalone line.
I still have all but Brave Maximus from that series, and I absolutely cherish the entire series. I think it's one of the most fun and innovated series they ever produced. It wasn't big, but the energy and excitement involved was.

I loved Car Robots, because it FELT like Transformers without being slavishly tied to G1. They were robots that turned into trucks and cars, but had their own designs and looks. Sure, there were homages, but they weren't just "same but with newer engineering/gimmicks"

It's an interesting thing in that the "neo-G1" style toys are kind of cool to me because, as a collector, I came in at Beast Wars. So that's the underlying standard I tend to hold things to. Thus a lot of this G1 retrograde stuff is cool for me because fiction's made me appreciate characters who have spectacularly underwhelming toys (Rodimus Prime, anyone?) By the same token, I can totally appreciate people who want more new stuff. I'm there too. Hell, Combiner Wars was great for adding in Alpha Bravo, Rook, and Offroad. Stuff like Knockout and Breakdown from Prime, Drift (once someone competent got to writing him), Nautica and Windblade, Slash and so on are all great additions. Plus, eventually Hasbro's going to undergo the same thing that happened with DC comics and all the Beast Wars fans will end up in charge of the line.
