Heard about his passing this morning. I saw him in person at a comic con once, but didn’t meet him. Never been a fan of Power Rangers, so I didn’t care, but I remember a crowd forming around him at the convention as he did a short martial arts demonstration. From what I could tell, he was really engaged with the fans and was having himself a great time. And even though I didn’t care about Power Rangers, I thought he seemed like a good guy for as cool as he was being with the fans.
Rest in peace, JDF.

The original MMPR hit riiiight as I was getting "too old for kids shows" and holds the dubious distinction of being my first "guilty pleasure" TV show that I knew was awful but still enjoyed. The green ranger arc was the highlight for me, so I've always been a fan of his, especially as it seems he embraced the legacy and the fans. RIP dude.

I saw him once at Otakon. Before the panel, he was taking people's phones and crank calling their friends. Hilarious. Seemed like a really fun guy. Speculation on the Internet is that he may have had issues in his private life that led to this, but I don't think anything is really known. Sad that two of the original six are already gone.

Haven't been "in" the Power Rangers fandom in ages, but this still hurts some. Maybe it was because he started off a bit dark (even if he was mind controlled), maybe it was that shield that separated him from the other rangers (unless he magically transferred it)...maybe it was the ponytail...but he left quite an impact. And I hope he kept returning in part because he genuinely enjoyed playing Tommy, even when he'd be twice as old as his co-stars. The only other thing I remember seeing him in was an episode of Family Matters, so I don't know how much he wanted to branch out from PR.
God rest ye, JDF.
