Well, there's always the possibility the price will go down like X-Spanse did and we'll see it on sale a bit later.
Price aside, this is actually a really good set. I was planning on skipping this entirely because T-Wrecks was such an uninspired repaint, I figured Rexxy would be the same, but that's a pretty elaborate retool on the jeep, and Tyranotron has a new head and a very striking deco. I'm gonna keep an eye on this.

Ben Yee explained it a bit earlier today. If they do not have the toy rights to the character, like they have with Ghostbusters or X-Men... They have to pay a licensing fee for it. And then there's the cost of retooling.
Remember how Ectotron was $40 for what was a $30 voyager? That was so cheap, because they had the Ghostbusters rights already and Ecto-1 is such a modification from the classic 1959 Cadillac that it all worked out. (Also Cadillac is part of GM, who Hasbro always has a deal with.)
Gigawatt was also $40 for what was a $20, maybe $25 deluxe? They don't have the BTTF rights, so they had to actually pony up for the rights to make the toy, adding to it's cost. Not to mention dealing with DeLorean Motor Company, who, believe it or not, is still around.
And then there's Maverick, who was $60 for what was a $30 toy. Again, had to pay for Top Gun rights and pay Northrop Grumman the money. (Apparently, they can be dicks to work with. Ever notice how many of the TF Jets and military vehicles are generic enough? It's to avoid dealing with them.)
X-Spanse was $60, but the toy it was based on (RotF Jetfire) was also $50, and they have the Marvel rights. So you're basically paying for little accessories and some retooling.
In the Jurassic Park case, it's a TRIPLE licensing fee. It's not just paying for the rights for Jurassic Park from Universal AND rival Mattel... But also from Ford for the Ford Explorer. (Ford is ALSO dicks to work with as we saw from the movie toys!) Top it all off, JP93 is a brand new toy. It's not based on an existing one. OBVIOUSLY it'll eventually be Armada Red Alert. But for now? It's exclusive to this deal alone. AND it's an Amazon deal. So that's where the extra $20-30 is coming from what is essentially a $50 & $25 toy.
Ironically enough, it was my wife who preordered it.

Lanard sells licensed Aliens and Predator figures for $10 bucks. I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. You were talking about the cost of the JP/TF thing and that's what I was explaining. If you wanna be mad at the rising price of toys in general? Coolio. I'm not going to defend the corporations. I was just explaining that one thing and that alone.

Lanard sells licensed Aliens and Predator figures for $10 bucks. I will fully admit that I am no expert in licensing and manufacturing costs. But I have always wondered if Lanard gets away with the cheaper prices because of: *The toys being a bit simpler and not quite as involved to design and produce like say a Transformer with a much higher parts count. *Lanard has hardly any marketing (at least that I know of) so that lack of marketing might allow them to shave some cost of the final product *Lanard also takes some liberties with their releases like a purple Xenomorph Queen and various other colors of Xenomorphs. Not being exact to the movie might also affect how much of a licensing cost they have to pay vs. products more accurate to the movies. *I know that Lanard also uses some pre-existing molds for the soldiers and some of the extra vehicles (see the Lanard Top Gun set that used pre-existing molds and not any new licensed movie accurate jets) so that might also translate into lower cost. As for the JP set, I like JP93 (and especially the Muldoon hat head sculpt) and while Tyrannocon Rex looks good in dino mode, I am honestly not a big fan of the mold. I have it pre-ordered but it will depend on what else comes out at that time whether I keep it or not. I am almost certain like other people have theorized that JP93 will possibly be remolded into Armada Red Alert so I might just wait and see if that happens. If they absolutely wanted my money though, I would have loved to see Hasbro do a new mold Maximal Grimlock/Indominus Rex release.

I think that's a huge factor right there. Let's take, say, the Avengers PS4 figures that AREN'T the Ultimates toys. I have a few of those and... They can stand nicely against the more expensive Ultimates. They're not as posable, or come with as many accessories... But visually it looks almost as good. And it was $10. Not to mention the (apparently) hard to find Star Wars: Galaxy of Adventure toys, which look like posable Disney Infinities figures, that are fun and stylized. Also $10. Doesn't explain why a TF Cyberverse deluxe is often a crapshoot... But hey, it's something.

Well, I did cancel my order. No reason, other than my wife realized she wanted the non-transforming ankylosaurus instead.
