Since I did Marvel and Star Wars.....Let's start with the CW which returns with new shows in February.
The Flash, now the CW's flagship show, returns for season 7. They'll be wrapping up the Mirror Master story and will be bringing back some "fan favorite" villains this season. They have recently paused production due to the positive covid test of a crew member.
This will be the final season for Supergirl as Melissa Benoist (who just had her first child) wants out. She's also said she currently has no desire to return in guest spots, so maybe they'll kill her off.
Legends of Tomorrow has not been announced as canceled yet, but rumors abound that season 6 will be the last. David Ramsey will show up this season as both John Diggle and another mystery character.
Black Lightning will also enter it's 4th and final season. China Anne McClain, who plays Jennifer, had already announced she wanted out before the cancelation and will only appear in a limited number of episodes.
Batwoman....hoo boy. After the much touted casting of actress Ruby Rose as Kate Kane, Rose has called it quits after only one season. Rather than recast Kate, producers have cast Javicia Leslie as new character Ryan Wilder. Considering Batwoman's villain and entire supporting cast revolved around Kate Kane, this sounds like a very bad idea.
Superman and Lois is the new show on the block with Clark and Lois raising twin teenaged sons in Smallville. Lois was pregnant two years ago in Supergirl but now the kids are teens because, Crisis.
There has been no word on Green Arrow and the Canaries in over a year, so no clue if that spin-off will happen.
The CW does have three new shows in development....Painkiller, a Black Lightning spin-off; Naomi, which is a new-ish DC character that I've never heard of; and Wonder Girl based on the new Brazilian character that's being introduced in DC's next comic crossover that I'm not going to read. Looks like they're leaning hard into diversity and moving away from the original comics.
Meanwhile, over at DC Universe....ha ha, just kidding. DC Universe is dead. Long live HBO Max! Titans, Doom Patrol, Young Justice, Stargirl and Harley Quinn have all migrated to the new service and were all renewed for another season. Titans season 3 has already wrapped filming.
There are currently seven DC shows "in development" for HBO Max...
Green Lantern from DCTV guru Greg Berlanti which will focus on several different Lanterns.
Peacemaker from James Gunn, a spin-off from his upcoming Suicide Squad film starring John Cena.
Strange Adventures, another Berlanti show which will be an anthology.
DC Super Hero High, a comedy produced by Elizabeth Banks.
Aquaman: King of Atlantis, an animated series from James Wan.
Justice League Dark from JJ ****ing Abrams.
An as yet untitled Gotham PD show which will spin-off from the upcoming Matt Reeves The Batman film.
Of course there's also Zack Snyder's Justice League, scheduled to premiere in March and run in four 1-hour installments.
The DC animated original movies continue on with three upcoming releases announced...Batman: Soul of the Dragon, Justice Society: World War II and Batman: The Long Halloween.
Also, the Pennyworth series on Epix is currently filming its' second season.
MOVIES!
Wonder Woman 1984 finally premieres on Christmas Day in theaters and HBO Max.
James Gunn's The Suicide Squad is set for a hybrid release in August 2021. Waller, Harley, Rick Flag and Boomerang return joined by Bloodsport, Peacemaker, King Shark, Ratcatcher, Savant, The Thinker, Blackguard, Polka-Dot Man, Weasel, TDK, Javelin and Mongal.
The Batman is scheduled for March 2022 and is full of interesting casting choices such as Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, Andy Serkis as Alfred and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.
The Flash / Flashpoint film is STILL on the books for 2022. Besides Ezra Miller it will feature two Batmen, Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck.
Also in 2022 is the long-awaited Aquaman sequel.
Moving on to 2023 we'll have SHAZAM! Fury of the Gods.
Dwayne Johnson is still 100% on board with Black Adam. Although the film doesn't have a release date yet, they've already cast JSA members Hawkman, Atom Smasher and Cyclone and they're on the hunt for a Dr. Fate.
Oh, and I don't want to forget about the Cartoon Network/HBO Max preschool animated series Batwheels. I'll let the show's synopsis speak for itself...
"The Batwheels are sentient superpowered crime-fighting vehicles defending Gotham City alongside Batman, Robin, Batgirl and a host of DC superheroes. Having just been created by the Batcomputer, our heroes are essentially kids with little to no life experience. Led by Bam (The Batmobile), the Batwheels – Bibi (The Batgirl Cycle), Red (The Redbird), Jett (The Batwing) and Buff (The Bat Truck) – must navigate the growing pains of being a newly formed super team as well as the growing pains that come with just being a kid. This relatable and aspirational series will follow the journey of this dynamic team as they thrill and entertain with their heroic adventures as well as demonstrate to kids the value of self-confidence, friendship and teamwork.
