Many, many fans were serviced that day. I really did like it, though.

That's definitely how you start out a season. And I'm really interested to see where they go with this, because after how good Season 1 treated the Mando, that last shot is REALLY hyping me up.

So while The Heiress was definitely fanservice for Clone Wars types, the most recent one had a shot that's pure old EU. I never thought we'd see the freaking Dark Troopers from Kyle Katarn's game back, but that really seems to be what they've got on Gideon's ship. Also, the recording explains a lot about what the Imperials were after the Child for. It'll be interesting to see if Gideon tries using this on himself by the end to continue his heavy Darth Vader vibes with the uniform and Darksaber.

Well, damn, we finally got to see why the old boy was so feared. Too bad it took 40 years. Looks like they're setting up more than a few spinoff projects this season.
I hear the people that paid $400 for the HasLab Razorcrest are a bit miffed right about now. 😆
Should be quite an interesting last two episodes, but they'd better be a decent length. This last one was a bit short.

I don't know about spinoffs, since we already know about the Lando series, the Cassian Andor and K-2SO series, the Obi-Wan series and that secretive series starring an unknown female protagonist that I'm 80% certain is Doctor Aphra. Knowing Filoni... I think this is actually set up for later Mando seasons. (I'm wondering if that final shot of Rebels may eventually tie into here.)

Like I said in the other thread, there's definitely a redemption theme going on with the Disney+ Star Wars stuff. Everything that fans hated or felt got short-changed, they're going to try to "fix" in these shows.

Very much liked this overall ending, and I like that it played the "little fish in a big pond" aspect up.
The Dark Troopers are just unstoppable to 'normal' folks, but the minute Luke gets involved, they're so much cannon fodder like the prequel battle droids.
That said, by far my favorite part was Gideon basically setting up what's a likely conflict later on with the Darksaber. I have to wonder if it was just his way of making it so Bo Katan couldn't get her place cleanly by knowing he'd likely lose to Mando and going in anyway. Either he wins and kills Mando, or he loses and Bo Katan gets screwed over by her own rules.

It was when Gideon was monologuing what he knew, like where Bo Katan and the others were, that Mando's gauntlet was depleted (I'm guessing he means the mini-missiles), that he seemed TOO well informed. I like a villain that's on top of things, is confident in his information, but it kinda dipped its toe into him knowing stuff that he probably shouldn't be so certain of. Unless he's got a little iPad connected to the security monitors and put it away just before Mando stepped in to take the kid.
It was the finale overall that felt a little...fan-ficky. Not inherently a bad thing, but "Mando finds a lost kid, and it's JUST LIKE YODA, and he's super-talented in the force, and THEN he meets Ahsoka and THEN he fights Boba Fett, but THEN they team up and THEN LUKE SKYWALKER AND THEN R2D2!!!!!" It felt like something a fanboy would conceive of...but I'd be lying if it didn't feel like it worked. Maybe it's because I've long been a more casual fan of the franchise, but I think a lot of it is some genuine heart, talent, and skill going into the stories. I really don't think you HAVE to have watched Clone Wars and Rebels to know why Bo Katan is around, or the Dark Saber, or stuff like that (though being familiar with those shows may be clouding that assertion, I'll grant). Mandalorian feels like it belongs in the Star Wars Universe, but isn't all that weighed down by the Skywalker saga or anything like that. They may use some characters and stuff from the cartoons or what have you, but it doesn't feel particularly forced *rimshot*, and isn't afraid of having it's own original characters to make their own impact.
