hasbropulse.com/products/transformers-generations-top-gun-mash-up-maverick-robotHe was revealed earlier with pre-orders that went live at 1 pm Eastern today for $49.99 with an ETA of October. Unlike Gigawatt at Wal-Fart, Pulse set a limit of 1 per customer and he's still up at this time. Seeing the pics, I have to say the designers kind of struck a flat note on that robot mode. I wanted to like it because I'm a fan of the F14 but wow. He does come with a Volleyball, extra hands, and a small motorcycle but still...between that robot mode and the Siege "wear apps" all over, Im hard pressed to want this at $50. I went ahead and put a pre-order in anyway. Maybe the in hand pics will look somewhat better but if not, I might cancel.

I... Don't love this anywhere near as much as I thought I would between my love for fighter plane based TFs and the F-14 in particular.
Bun kinda hit on why.. it's just so bland looking, like it almost appears to be one of those generic me-too other transforming robot toy lines. It also gives me vibes of those god awful Star Wars Transformer figures from years ago. Easy pass for 50. Sadly.

Wouldn't change the robot mode design but if they dumped the Top Gun reference and repackage this as a GI Joe x TF Sky Striker, I might be a bit more interested.

Nah, the Skystriker would have the same problem - it's a "realistic" monochrome grey paintscheme with nothing to break it up. This is who the repaint needs to be

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm getting definite TF-movie vibes from it, for some reason.

Yeah, I get that too, but like one of those "movie-series-but-not-actually-in-any-of-the-movies" figures.

I pre-ordered, but it's really going to depend on the actual size. No comparisons so far, but if it was some middling between Voyager and Leader size, I might get it. Literally double the price of another Voyager and I'd probably pass.
But I've got a few months before it actually ships, so time for information to come out.

This is the first crossover figure that didn't instantly get a 'must have' reaction from me. Thinking it over, I think I hit on the reason. Ghostbuster Optimus was a classic character in a different and unique paint job (And likely the only MP-10 version I'm interested in ever tracking down. Ectotron and Gigawatt are original characters whose alt-modes are unique CUSTOM vehicles. When they transform, it's not just 'a car', you instantly think 'It's THE Delorian' or 'Who Ya Gonna Call?'. Maverick is a new character that turns into a generic F-14. As much as I love the Tomcat, it's not something that makes me need to go looking for it, especially I already have a collection of Macross figures. A generic jet isn't iconic enough. The only memorable bit is the volleyball.
Also, the packaging is a disappointment. The G1 style boxes for movies from the 80s makes sense, and I'm actually keeping them to store my figures in as opposed to tossing them in the plastic tubs with all my other TFs.

No Goose Mini-Con to eject from the cockpit? NO SALE! These crossovers are a cool idea, but not for me. This is what they should have done years ago with the Star Wars stuff, make original TF characters rather than putting Han and Chewie heads on Transformers bodies.
