Maryland had a similar statement today. I'm actually fairly happy with it. Closure of public gathering places, ban on gatherings over 50, mobilizing reserve military and police, allowing medical practitioners with out of state or lapsed licenses to assist, authorizing funding for 6,000 ICU beds, prohibiting utility shutoffs and evictions. This is basically all the stuff Bernie Sanders wanted at a Federal level, but done by a Republican governor. Color me shocked.
Meanwhile at the Federal level, employers will be required to give people sick leave if they feel ill. Except that the Republicans refused to pass it unless it exempted employers with over 500 employees. You know, the ones whose employees most need this and who can most afford to do it. Please do not let them live this shit down come November, that profits literally meant more than lives.

Pretty surreal day in New England, Tom Brady leaving on St Patrick's Day, and no one can drink away their sorrows with all the bars and restaurants closed. With all the schools closed, they've also shut down the malls so kids won't have any large public spaces to congregate.
I'm still going to work. I work in manufacturing so working from home is not an option. We've cancelled all meetings and are taking extra precautions. I've been wiping down surfaces like crazy. I'm going out for any needed essentials, but that's it.
My wife is still working. She works in a nursing home doing activities with the elderly. While not essential to their health, it is essential for their well being given that the elderly are pretty much cut off from the rest of the world right now.
On a more somber note, we had an acquaintance pass away yesterday. Not COVID related, he had been battling advanced stage lung cancer for quite a while. Now the family has to navigate having services with everything going on. As of yesterday, they were going to hold services but no more than 25 people could be in the room. Last night, the federal government has advised no more than 10 at a time, so I have no idea what they'll do. Then there's the matter of giving or not giving consoling hugs or handshakes. This whole thing sucks.
Today is my regular day off. I'm hanging with the dogs, cooking corned beef for just me, binge watching Avengers EMH and listening to everyone on Boston sports radio lose their collective minds.

So, how's everyone doing? RI has 83 confirmed cases, more to come I'm sure. The Governor has shut down all public gathering places, theaters, salons, spas, tattoo parlors, things like that. Gatherings of more than 10 have been banned. No state-wide lockdowm yet, but if people don't listen to the government recommendations and this thing keeps spreading, that will be the next step. I hope it doesn't come to that, but Americans seem too entitled, ignorant and just plain stupid to handle things like this responsibly, especially with that functioning idiot in charge of the nation. Sorry, is my old man pessimism showing? Luckily, RI has been ranked as #1 in COVID-19 response by a few different organizations, which is good. Despite being the smallest state, we're the second most densely populated so it's good that our Governor is out in front of this. Anyway, I'm still working. Starting tomorrow someone will be doing a "wellness check" on everyone entering our building. Let's see how that goes.

Our state has gone into shutdown, and work is being scaled back considerably. My plan to visit Ops and Uni in June has been cancelled, luckily I hadn't brought tickets as I was planning on waiting to see how this mess went.

165 cases confirmed in Arkansas. No state lockdown yet but bars/restaurants are mandated closed except for drive thru, all schools are closed until April 17, and recommending no gatherings 10 or more.
And the company I work for doesn't seem to care about that last point. We have work from home but they have been dragging their feet implementing it further due to the current situation. Instead they have 30+ people staffed at any given time and we sit 3 feet from each other. I need the money but the fact that at the moment I live with and care for my dad (who is over 60 with other conditions) and, after pleading with the company to hurry and bump me to work at home so I don't risk bring this home to him has fallen on deaf ears, has me rethinking how much this company actually "cares".

I've basically been "social distancing" my whole life, so very little changes for me. One case was confirmed in Madison about a month ago, and one in the County where I live last week. Haven't heard anything about lockdowns or the like, but again, I don't get out much anyway. Mom went to MI for my nephew's confirmation, so I'm grocery shopping and cooking for Dad and myself. I went to a store I seldom go to a few days ago, for a few odds and ends, and while the shelves weren't totally bare, there were some products that were wiped out. Haven't tried the usual store yet. Mom has this habit of buying meats and putting them in the freezer, so there's stuff to thaw...but she mostly bought beef and chicken, so that leaves very little variety on its own.
Dad has a prospective contract in MI, but he's been waiting for a date where he can go and meet these people face-to-face. As it is, he's been having trouble nailing a contract, and while he's mostly optimistic this one's in the bag, I don't know how this pandemic is going to affect matters.

Maryland is down to gatherings of no more than 10 people. Governor as it turns out was pretty pissed off about people still celebrating St Patrick's Day two weekends ago, which is part of why he shut down all the bars and restaurants.
Food I dunno. I hear mixed reports on Nextdoor about availability of things. I have a Peapod delivery on Thursday, so I'll see what I manage to get there and try to scavenge for the rest. Dani has offered to pick stuff up on her way home from work since she knows I freak out in crowded stores. Vets are "essential" so she's likely to keep working in some capacity. I'm not concerned about work, my company is about as recession proof as you can be. We make network security software that's used by the federal government, and it essentially means anybody who works with the federal government also has to use it to qualify against their standards. Not to mention all the other large private companies. Even if we wound up doing a round of layoffs, the position I'm in is essential and I have no backup, so I'll be fine.
My dad works at Utz (east coast snack foods maker, if you don't know it), so he should be fine. Food production has to keep going.
I'm trying to stay positive, hoping some silver lining comes out of this in exposing the fundamental weaknesses and cruelty of our economic system. Maybe some good will come of it.

My state went into lockdown too. I’m on vacation for the foreseeable future. Don’t know how this is gonna workout, but here we are.
