The other bit I've noticed is that spells take ATB bars like abilities do. If you don't have the ATB at the moment to cast it, the option's grayed out. That said, I didn't notice it until the Scorpion fight when Cloud mentions it. I'll have to replay and check if Barret gets it earlier than that. Oh woe.

No, that part I picked up on quick enough - that's exactly what I meant by the traditional system melded nicely into an ARPG -- casting a spell takes an ATB bar, or a "turn." It was just that spells, even with 2 full bars, were ALWAYS grey for Barret. I just assumed it was like the original game and he "doesn't know how to use Materia" to shoehorn in a tutorial, or him just not having any was reflective of the original setup Ah well, I'll spend more time with it when the final version launches, it's very probably user error on my part. It's been AGES since I cared enough about a game to play a demo, but I definitely remember some in the PS1 era where they had stuff like that, dialogue for the finalized game that didn't make sense for the demo build. It might actually have been the original FF7 demo, but I haven't even seen that disc this millennia so could be anything.

Messing around with this again, definitely liking the groove the combat hits, but the Scorpion Sentinel boss is STILL a bit of a pain because I'm not sure what some of its attacks are meant to be countered by. The tail laser salvo seems to be dodgeable, while the machine guns get reduced to 1 damage by blocking, but the rockets seem to just be impossible to dodge and do a bunch of damage even if you block. Also, maintaining target lock on the shield generator is a pain in the ass. Also, for once, I was noticing Barrett building up Limit. May try a run controlling him primarily to see if I can get his Limit Break or something. Looking forward to a whole game of this smooth of combat though.

I found semi-okay success with using Cloud's roll to avoid some of the rockets, but I wasn't having great luck on the timing. On a side note - this engine, but multiplayer? THAT would be a Final Fantasy MMO I would play the hell out of.

Where'd you get it from? Amazon's not estimating mine showing up until the 14th

Yeah, similar for me, though we just got Persona 5 Royal, so it taking a bit to show up is fine over here.

True to what I've been saying for years, that if they ever actually DID this, I would buy the specialist of special editions, So I ordered the 1st Class edition straight from Square Enix's store directly. I got an email about a week prior stating they would be following with shipping information soon to try to make sure the game arrived by the targeted physical copy release date. I've yet to get an update on the package itself besides UPS has had a tracking # generated though, so we'll see. Gives me a couple days to finish my replay of the original version (though I already bombed through the Midgar arc).

Just arrived. Between the massive install time and other plans I won't get to play it for a few hours, but will update with thoughts accordingly
