One of the co-founders of PayPal is starting a new online currency, and is offering new members basically free Q's (currency, to equal $1) to those who sign up, invite others, (each member can invite up to 5 people in two weeks) download the phone app. There's no payment, they only ask for your name and email. You can read more about it here.
When you get invited, you get a confirmation code via email, and if you don't use it within a few hours, the account is erased. My brother invited me, and I thought I may as well pull the trigger. I invited friend on Twitter, but she apparently has trouble getting timely confirmation emails in general. So if any four of you are interested, I can PM you an invite link (and if MORE here are interested, those I invite and confirm can pay it forward to the rest of ya'll). I've got 9 days left to invite people...I was waiting for my other friend to pop up in some kind of notification, giving it another shot, but nothing yet.

I saw the title and thought John De Lancie had a new project. Is this like that crypto currency? I've had a few people try to explain crypto to me but it still just goes over my head how it all works.

It seems to be more an alternative means of payment than energy-consuming cryptocurrency. They mention how other sites use some of the techniques they have in mind, but Initiative Q's goal is more expansive. For that to happen, they need hundreds of millions of applicants. From their site: Initiative Q’s payment modelInitiative Q is creating a modern payment network that will aggregate the best ideas, innovations, and technologies developed in recent years. The Q payment network will allow safe, fast, and low-cost transactions, using a global currency. Many of the ideas that Initiative Q will include already exist in some form, but thus far they have gained only limited acceptance, and there is no universal system that integrates them all. This is due to a classic chicken and egg barrier: No buyer wants to join a new network with no sellers, and no seller will offer a payment option that no buyer uses. Initiative Q will overcome this barrier by distributing its currency—Q—for free to early adopters, creating incentive for its adoption and use. This paper gives a taste of the innovations and improvements that the Q payment network will offer. From their FAQ:Is this an ICO?No. ICO, Initial Coin Offering, is a term used in the cryptocurrency world to describe the public sale of newly issued coins. Initiative Q’s goal is to become the standard in payments and to create a global currency. That requires adoption by hundreds of millions of members, which will not happen if they are required to pay. Qs will therefore be distributed for free. I should've mentioned this before (sorry, my bad), but for each new member, the amount of Q currency allotted drops. So if one member is allotted $8,000 for joining, completing tasks (invites and such), the member after them would get maybe seven thousand-something (I'm not sure of the drop rate).

So, I have only about 3 days left when I can invite people (ugh, I'm bad at this). Just throwin' that out in case anyone is interested.

This sounds very much like the digital era version of a pyramid/Ponzi scheme. Gonna be a no for me, dog. Sorry

It still sounds a little Greek to me so I think I'll have to pass as well.
