Yeah, I was a little disappointed by that honestly. Toy has always stood above cartoon/comic design for me as far as modern versions go. But it's not like it ruined my childhood or anything.

I picked up Rodimus this weekend as well. Saturday night to be exact. It is now Monday morning, 11:30 am...
...Those trailer stickers are fucking goooooonnnee. They were crumpling up right out of the box, and it just look bad. So I peeled them off and... Oh hey! Some nice detail underneath the flames. I also cracked out the silver and yellow paint markers, and did up his wheels and robot head chevrons. It really goes a long ways. And I know Reprolabels will produce a good set real soon.
He's not a bad toy. He's really not. I really like him even. And maybe I'm in the minority here, but I think the smaller Deluxe guy is really underwhelming compared to the Titans Returns version.

I just wish Reprolabels or Toyhax or whatever would offer waterslides as an option instead of foil stickers. If they did that, I could give a shit what Hasbro supplied. Little waterslide action, some decal solvent, protective clear coat... you'd never know that wasn't printed over that detail.

I always sucked at waterslides. I think I've only managed to successfully apply five waterslide decals over the course of my model building. Last one I did was an Enterprise-A kit. I managed to get the "USS Enterprise" decal on the top of the saucer but when I went to apply the "NCC-1701-A" decal, I ended up ruining the 'A'.

Waterslides take a little bit of skill, but when it's on there it looks painted on, and will pretty much never peel up if you wet the surface with decal setter first and seal it in after. You can also use the decal solvent to basically melt the decal to conform to a curved or irregular surface, which a sticker can't do. Even the thin, clear stickers Bandai provides in most of their kits for markings look like absolute shit on a painted kit, and not super great on an unpainted one. The outline of the sticker is so obvious. Considering Bandai's prices, you'd think they could afford waterslides as standard if cheap ass Revell kits can.

Waterslides are a creation of the devil I prefer dry transfer decals myself. Anyhow, I've gotten both Rodimus Prime and Rodimus Unicronus, and while Prime is probably the best toy of the character I've ever seen, I like Unicronus even better. The black and purple color scheme looks sharp, the Chaos Matrix is a neat accessory, and the differently sculpted head adds just the right touch. He kinda reminds me of Macho Man Randy Savage a little bit...which is how his voice sounds in my head now. Normally I'd abhor buying a repaint of a $50 toy just weeks after buying the original...but in this case, things worked out pretty well.

I saw him at work today. I liked him, but was able to pass. Now im gonna buy him. Damnit.

Due to money being tight... I can't bring myself to buy Unicronus, even if he DOES look cool. I also didn't buy the Optimus one, but I'm holding out for the Nemesis repaint of him.
