So, I'm starting a Second Season of my review show (Now with almost 140 views in total! ...oh lord), and I've got something kinda big planned. Came to me when I was driving back from my second failed attempt at catching the new Jumanji. And I had the idea of involving the Scooby-Doo/Brave and the Bold movie. It'd be my first time reviewing a movie.
I figured I could burn it on my computer, but no such luck. After a little searching, it turns out I'd need some software, which some sites, like VLC come free. I almost downloaded that, but all it took was one persons account of encountering malware to deter me.
Anyone know if that's more of a fluke incident, and VLC is generally safe, or is there a better option to let me copy the movie for review purposes? If not, no biggie, I'll either shelve the idea or try using screenshot stills (though I don't know if that'll work, since it didn't years back when I tried making a meme pic of Rhinox with his chain-guns, and all I got was a blank screen).

VLC is generally safe if you get it from their site. It's an open source project, so it's not like anything could really be hidden in there. It's not really a DVD ripper though, it's a player. It can play DVDs, and just about anything else you throw at it. If you want to rip a DVD to your hard drive, you should look at Handbrake. Now, Handbrake doesn't come with the library that actually breaks DVD encryption, but you can install it separately. That you can get from... VLC again. It's the same open source library they use to play DVDs. If you put it in Handbrake's program folder, then you can rip DVDs with it. download.videolan.org/pub/libdvdcss/1.2.12/

Cool, thanks. I've got the scripting done, but since I'm starting new episodes as of tomorrow, and I've got...two full eps done, I might postpone it for now and focus more on reading, scripting, and recording the comics I have planned.
But if it's just a matter of two programs that work the desired magic together, then sweet. I probably could've gone the torrent route (my paranoia about THAT notwithstanding), but I'd probably end up with a copy where the seeder emblazoned his logo on it...

To be clear, you don't need the full copy of VLC for Handbrake. You just need the DVD decryption library I linked to

Oh, yeah, I got Handbrake (probably could've mentioned that, but got busy with stuff). I tried VLC, but something was wonky at the site (which I think I already had open in a tab at the time), but I found an alternative.
Review's done, and it turned out pretty well. It'll be out Tuesday after next to...probably the same amount of fanfare as ever.
