The whole series is up on YouTube & I’ve never seen it. So why not- I can plug in an episode here & there until I make it through the whole thing. No excuse not to really.
Ok so firing up the first ep!
- God the bad Japanese lounge singer theme song. So bad.
- This narrator won’t shut up. It’s been 11 minutes and he won’t shut up. This is no longer an opening exposition like what Victor Caroli did for G1. (I’ve lost track now- the narration has eaten up most of the episode.
- I hate it when a show frontloads all the exposition right away. I have no reason to care about all the stuff going on yet. How about just establish the setting and let the story commence??
- The narrator is even talking over the actual characters! They’re speaking. There’s dialogue. But this narrator won’t shut up!
- There’s like 10 different stories happening here. Are we following the pretenders? The children in mech suits? SixKnight & his defection?? There is too much going on in this pilot episode & none of it relates to the other sub-plots.
- Did they introduce the entire toyline here? I swear I’ve lost track of how many character intros there were & they never stayed with any of them long enough for me to even begin to get vested in what they were doing.
This is it right here, folks. Not counting Zone, because that was just a one-off special, this is easily the worst pilot episode I have ever seen for a TF series. I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but Zone may have been better. At least it was able to focus on telling a coherent story, trite as it was.
I’m going to keep watching though, because I have heard good things about Masterforce & I’m hoping that now that we’re past the intro, they’ll get to telling actual stories instead of bombarding me with what amounts to a rapid fire clip show.
Favorite character so far: Cancer maybe? No one else did or said anything memorable.
