Looks like TCats & Steven Universe had a kid. I've heard people make comments on it looking like Steven Universe, and I gotta disagree totally. Steven Universe, love it or hate it, has a wonderful sense of color theory and character designs. This...? Does not. At best, it looks like someone's trying to copy it. And failing.

Maybe they're confusing aesthetic similarities with tonal presentation in ads. Whenever they air commercials for Steven Universe, they have a consistent lighthearted feel about them (maybe they show some action, but generally they don't include the emotional gut punches), with maybe some "goofiness" thrown in. Lightheartedness is clearly what they're going for in "Roar", I'd liken the visuals closer to Flapjack, and even that wouldn't be accurate. It actually reminds me of a look Teen Titans GO! briefly had in one episode where Control Freak convinced them they weren't good anymore and had to be rebooted.
It does, however, fit a certain trend that many cartoons these days are following; simplistic designs with off-but-not-outrageous proportions. Though, if certain OTHER trends flows into the writing, and this being a comedy, I expect one of their first jokes to be one of the group posting on social media...specifically them duck-facing and giving a peace sign in front of their planet mid-explosion.

I saw some of the death threats and such the production team is getting. I am now in full support of this project

Death threats?
Okay. I guess I have officially reversed my opinion now. Or at the very least, I hope it goes far.

I haven't heard anything on the scale of the 'people behind Reboot need to be raped with an axe' incident, but yeah, there's some sad fuckers out there.

No, that sounds right. But they’re trying to pull off this copy while also giving it that TCats look & yeah, it’s not doing it for me.

According to Lauren Faust (My Little Pony revival, also worked on Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends), the executive mentality behind greenlighting comedy-centric shows like "Roar", is that kids today aren't as interested in action cartoons, because they've got action video games.
While part of me is skeptical about that, I can kind of see it. There's an interactivity involved that may make it look more enticing, especially with the ready availability and entertainment devices these days.

I thought about this show the other day. It's been over a year since this was announced and as far as I know, no release date has ever been announced. Did Cartoon Network cancel this after the backlash?

Between Wikipedia and Google, all I can glean is that the premiere is "2019", and everything else is TBA.
