Yeah, I'll be honest, this gets me eager.

I admit, I'll probably sit for a bit and see where it goes.
We've had so many retreads of the classic G1 series that seeing the Ark stuck in a volcano just has me go 'what, again?'
IDW started with the war already active in an entirely new way than we were used to, and IDW2, while bogged down eventually, gave a perspective we hadn't normally gotten of a Cybertron pre-war that actually interacted with other species.
Given that Legacy right now is poking at all the other story beats the franchise has historically had, a straight up G1 redo again is going to have to do some lifting to get me interested.

Yeah, I love G1 as much as the next now middle aged nerd clinging to my childhood, but I really want to see them do something different at this point.
Honestly I want Hasbro to do a toyline that isn't only nostalgia bait again, and some fiction for that.
I'm MUCH more interested in the fact GI Joe is in Larry Hama's hands again.

I will always love G1 and I'm not going to write off this new series yet since it's not even out yet. But to be quite honest, I'd be much more interested in a new retelling of the Unicron Trilogy, RID 2001, or maybe do something completely original with new designs and story. Also agree on Joe. First thing Larry Hama is doing is taking Snake Eyes back to his Commando roots instead of the ninja.

Maybe pick one of the series that hasn't been done to death? Unicron Trilogy. Prime. Animated. Even a take off EarthSpark would be neat. But I'm still excited for it though. Daniel Warren Johnson is a hell of a creator.

Now that you mention it I'd love to see another take on UT. There was some great ideas there, even if the source material was somewhat lacking (ie, the first animated go at G1, actually )

The TV series were lackluster but, and I have to give DW credit, they were doing a damn good job on Armada/Energon. I even loved how they better connected Aramda to Energon by having Armada designs carry over and then give them an in series upgrade or just keep their original design altogether (like the brief appearance of Red Alert and Hoist in Energon).

So, issue 1 is out. Things get off to a decent start all round. Plot is moving at a quick pace, there are several character plotlines already in play, and while it is a retelling of the usual 'Ark buried on Earth' approach, it takes some different twists on it, with the Autobots forced to abandon the Ark to the Decepticons, both sides low on energy and unable to revive more then the handful of bots already active, limiting cast bloat early on. The only problem I have so far is that Johnsons art occasionally has some near Dreamwave level proportions to it. On the other hand, he had Prime suplex Starscream, so it balances out
