So, the Malto family has very quickly endeared themselves to me. Probably because they honestly feel like a family, and the kids, including the bots, feel like legit kids.

Watched the hour-long premiere last night OnDemand.
I don't dislike it; I think it's fine, but I'm iffy on some of the character designs (particularly the Malto family and Prime's plate-less mouth).

Watched all 9 episodes, which I guess is technically 11 since two of them are two-parters listed as one episode. Kind of like Witch From Mercury, I think this was mostly to set up the status quo, and the second half of the season will probably have more of shit hitting fans. Some interesting lore changes, with Frenzy and Skywarp being female. One of the Terrans is non-binary, so I'm sure Ben Shapiro or Joe Rogan or somebody will have an aneurism over that. Bee seems to have played a much bigger role in history than he did in actual G1, though it's also possible that Alex was exaggerating a bit given his hero worship. Some good stuff with Megatron too, pointing out the downsides of the alliance, and having to face the judgement of his former subordinates. Really enjoying that aspect of exploring a post-war scenario. Action is good when it gets down to it. There's a moment where Megatron pulls off some straight up DBZ shit slamming a seeker into the ground. The humans are also not useless, with Dot, Alex and even the kids chipping in. Only weird thing is that some of the effects (mostly smoke and fire) get rendered in a 2D look which to my eye just clashes and looks odd. Loved the dad taking on spider bots with Philippine martial arts. And he says he's not an action hero. A bit surprised the toys aren't out in time with the content. That seems like kind of a misstep... if kids are watching this now, you're losing any momentum you have if the toys aren't there. After seeing Arcee and Soundwave especially, I'll probably be buying a lot of these. Sigh. Where am I gonna put all this shit? We got some explanation of where the Terrans come from with the stone thing left behind by Solus Prime. More lore callbacks there too, with Alex referencing the 13. Still not any explanation yet of why they are emotionally tied to the kids through the cybersleeves though, or why they don't use standard energon. Three new Terrans in the last episode, but I guess we don't get to see what they turn into until the next batch of episodes (or toy spoilers).

Really enjoying that aspect of exploring a post-war scenario. One of the writers told me that they left the explicit details vague on purpose. That flashback was Alex's perspective. Dot would have another. (Probably in another art style.) It's meant to be roughly non-committal that it could be the G1 verse... Or even Unicron Trilogy, Aligned or even Cyberverse. And I can see how it could roughly connect to them too. In the end, I'm enjoying it like a "Turn A" Transformers.

I mean, not the first time it's been done. Beast Wars made a great attempt at convincing people who didn't know better that G1 was a consistent and serious story with an absolutely straight face.

Well, 20 years convinced everyone that Beast Wars was a consistent and serious story, forgetting every gag the show did all the time.

Yeah, you can shut down any assertion of BW being serious business all the time just by calling up a video of Rhinox's thermonuclear fart.
If that's what this is, I look forward to Bee in a ball gown.

Oh, sure. I just snicker at the fact Beast Wars is a great example of cherry-picking canon for what you need and ignoring what you don't, given the half-mentions in Seasons 1 and 2 before Ravage and the Ark completely blew things wide open.
Earthspark seems to be similarly selective and that's a good thing in my opinion. Shows they know how to not have to rehash an existing plotline over and over again. I'm enjoying this new post-war paradigm.
