I didn’t watch it, but I’m glad the Eagles won. So sick of seeing the Patriots at every Super Bowl.

Is it a bad thing I want an action figure of the Bud Knight? Dilly dilly? But hopefully Miami will have a better showing next season and while Im not a fan, Id like to see the Browns break their losing streak.

Does it say something that this thread was what reminded me the Superbowl was happening at all?

I'm getting the rematch I wanted, so I'm excited for this SB, but I expect it to be a tough game for sure.

Well when I said I expected it to be a tough game, I was thinking shootout/running back barn burner point-fest, not old school defensive football everyone claims is dead. But woo, parade tuesday!

So, I didn't actually watch the game because NFL's not really my thing, but I did some digging just based off the Patriots Superbowl meme. Some fun facts I dug up - The Patriots aren't actually super common in the Superbowl, at least not consecutively. They were in 2012 and 2015, but this is actually the first three years in a row performance by the Patriots in NFL history. - Non-consecutively, they've been a pretty major presence in the last couple decades, with being in 9 of the last 18 Superbowls - Of those, they've won 6 and lost 3. - They aren't as bad as the Buffalo Bills, who were in 4 Superbowls back to back between 1991 and 1994 - But perhaps that's a good thing as the Bills lost every single one, and haven't been back since 1994.

Oh, prior to the current (Kraft) ownership, the Patriots were one of the worst teams in the league. For a long time they were like current Cleveland Brown/Detroit Tigers style bad. An original AFL team (as the Boston Patriots - fun fact, they actually played their first couple seasons in Fenway), and between that year and when Kraft purchased the team in 94 they only won their division three times 63 (pre SB era, *crushed* by the Chargers in the AFC title game), 78, 86 (Made it to the SB that year, stomped into oblivion by the 86 Bears, maybe the single best single season team ever.) All 11 SB trips have come since 1997(record number of appearances, next is 8, which Pittsburgh, Denver and Dallas all have). Consecutive trips to the SB are exceedingly rare, beside the Bills and the Pats, only Miami has had three subsequent appearances, even the vaunted Steel Curtain era Steelers couldn't accomplish that. What makes their recent history so amazing is the unprecedented run sustained success. Since 2001, that same 18 year spam, they've won their division every single year but 2: 2002 Jets and 2008 Miami (Hi iacon! ) and went 11-5 that year with their backup quarterback as Brady lost that entire season to a knee injury. So they've made the playoffs 15 times, and of those 15 times they made it to the conference championship 13 times, including the last 8 consecutive. And from that they've participated in a whopping 50% of Super Bowls. Even *losing* a Super Bowl is difficult, most teams don't make it there more than a couple times in their "window" of competitiveness (before star players age or injury out, something the Pats have been somehow almost immune to in the current era). 11 appearances is more than the bottom 8 teams combined appearance rate. They are REALLY good. Historically good. The only other runs of sustained excellence in any sport that are comparable are the Auerbach era Celtics, the golden dynasty era of the Yankees (the Ruth-Mantle years, still the gold standard for any team based sport having sustained success) and Serena Williams (who is a Terminator sent back in time to play tennis). I totally understand why everyone hates them and is sick of them. I would be too if I lived anywhere else and rooted for another team. I do feel really bad for the Bills fans though. Losing 4 in a row is just historically heartbreaking, AND the franchise's all time greatest player is football's persona non grata for obvious reasons.
