In terms of Megatron toys, we've gotten a lot more variety over the years than Primes, sort of.
For G1-esque, I'd say it's either the Netflix Siege Megatron or the Combiner Wars Leader Megatron depending on what scale you want him at. Earthrise's kibble cannon was kind of a poor implementation compared to Siege's cannon/sword combo. While Leader Megs has a better tank mode overall, but maybe not the absolute best robot mode in the legs.
Beyond that, I suppose Classics Megs and his repaints are an honorable mention if you *must* have Megs as a pistol. But personally, Megatron as a tank or other big fuck off vehicle of destruction has always been superior to G1 pistol for me regardless of what he turns into.

Yeah, Siege if we're going for G1 styling. Honorable mention to Earthrise Megatron in G2 colors if you have a mod part to get the cannon onto the shoulder and you toss the kibble cannon aside when displayed in bot mode.
Best Megatron ever regardless of incarnation? I'd say Energon. That toy fuckin ruled.

Hmmmmm, I am a fan of my Prime Megs, even with that stupid bulky canon.
Classics gets a mention because he turns into a friken Nerf gun.

Forgot to mention a non-G1 Megatron figure. For me, I would say it would have to be TLK Voyager Class Megatron. Yea, he is not a G1 style by a long shot but he still has a few nods to know he is Megatron though like the arm cannon. For a movie style figure, I love the overall look of this Megatron more so than the first three movies. He also has a pretty interesting jet mode, a sinister looking sword, and I love the face sculpt. I don't have many movie toys left but I still have TLK Megatron and he is my definitive choice for my movie shelf.
Can't really say much on a BW Megatron since I only have the Kingdom BW Megatron figure and while he is a decent figure, I'm not a real big fan of the mold. Transmetal Megatron would have been my top choice for best BW Megatron if not for that little gold plastic issue.

Oof, I hadn't even thought about the fact that some of the Transmetals had molded metallic plastic. I thought the vacuum metallic paint flaking off was the worst thing. Now I'm really afraid to dig mine back out.

My TM Megatron disintegrated, otherwise he be here, first the waist went out, then as I tried to repair him, he just kept busting. The Armada repaint/retool was okay though, much more durable.

The metallic paint never flaked off mine. All my transmetals are still nice and shiny. Didn’t do anything special and I didn’t store them the best. I don’t know. Just got lucky, I guess. Any time I see people talk about the dreaded flaking, I kinda wonder when or if it’ll happen to mine. But not so far!

The Beast Machines toys were REALLY notorious for flaking. My Ultra Jetstorm is more silver chrome than blue now.

The Beast Machines toys were REALLY notorious for flaking. My Ultra Jetstorm is more silver chrome than blue now. Friend of mine had a BM Blast Charge and you could see cracking in the chrome where it looked like it was about to come off and he hardly ever touched it. He also had a Botcon Cyclonus repaint of Jetstorm. I wonder how that is holding up. My biggest chrome paint issue was with TM Optimus Prime. The little badge thing on his best mode chest and his face flaked like crazy. I didn't have TM Rattrap but I heard he was the biggest culprit of chrome flake.
