Just finished episode 6. Overall, I liked it well enough, it was entertaining, though there were some elements I either didn't like, or may have middle-of-the-road feelings about, or just find ponderous.
It didn't seem like the G1 crews were gone THAT long, so what, the Allspark waited a week or so before deciding "DEATH BY SNOW" for everyone left behind? I get they hinted at Prime "losing everything", and that'd mean Elita, but it's just way too dour to have what appears to be only the two sides, each with a handful of 'bots, be the apparent only survivors. And if taking the Allspark off-planet gave rise to the Maximals and Predacons...how did that happen if it looks like EVERYONE ON THE PLANET DIED? Okay, they can probably show some new characters having survived in the next installment, but would it have killed them to show some (like Elita, if one reads the room) hanging on, but with other casualties? I suppose maybe since we got to know these characters, that makes their deaths more impactful...in theory. But if you KEEP killing off the familiar characters, or love-interests, then it feels like dipping too far into "we so serious" mindset, like "if we kill a bunch of characters, that makes us mature and cool, right?" Humor is your friend, it's okay to let it in once in a while, even during time-space chaos and dying planets.
I don't have as big a problem with the heavy-paused dialogue, but I think it was used too much in all the characters. Maybe if it was a trait of a few, but EVERYONE did. Some of the BW actors took some getting used to, though Pred-Megs felt more akin to a certain fire ant that kept shouting about "the royalty!" I had my reservations about Primal, seeming kind of heartless and apathetic from time to time...but hey, "nightmare future variant" or something. Nice touch with the Beasts didn't have the mechanical vocalization like their predecessors, though.
There's a lot about this series, and this season in particular, that feels fan-fic-like, but whereas often times (I've found, anyway) that can become too self-indulgent, this felt like maybe it worked better, at least in certain areas. It feels entertaining, but still needs some serious polish to be more enjoyable.
