Toys R Us to return to the US...with TWO, count'em, TWO whole stores! YEAH! www.cnn.com/2019/06/21/business/toys-r-us-stores-comeback/index.html?utm_medium=social&utm_term=link&utm_content=2019-06-21T22%3A55%3A32&utm_source=twCNNThey hope to open up more stores next year. The TRU building near me is still there, unused...like a lot of businesses that've closed in last ten years. Also, I mentioned in my previous post how that image of Geoffrey's Toy Box was in a store that may've been a Pick 'n' Save? Well, that seems like it'd make sense, because Tru Kids set up those displays in a deal with Kroger, which a few years ago bought Pick 'n' Save (possibly all of the Mariano owned stores, I dunno). But, yeah...slight glimmer of possibility that the chain might make a comeback.

Oh yeah, I'm sure Hasbro, Mattel and Lego are already waiting in line to get screwed again. Good luck!

Yeah, it's like Bain Capital never learned from the last two times they did this.

There's nothing to learn. This isn't the bug, it's the feature. Perform a leveraged buyout, saddle the company with the debt, extract all possible value from it and put it in your pocket, then let it fail. They made a fuckton of money off this.

So a couple months back, I noticed some activity a brewing at the old TRU by me. At first, some guys, a couple vans/cars/trucks. Someone had something in store for this...uh, store.
Cut to the other day, and they're converting it into a Burlington coat shop.
No word yet on their stock of video games or Transformers.

I just wish we had one locally. The local TRU I used to frequent the most when I was in the area was turned into a Trader Joe's a few months back.

Here's a tour of the new TRU. They've opened one in NJ and another in TX. The play areas seem nice for kids, but the selection is just a fraction of what it once was. Let's see how long these last.

Huh, we have a local toy store around here called Castle Toys. (I pass it on my way to work.) It's meant as a more laid back, educational play area store, more for demonstrations in upscale areas. The most mainstream stuff they sell is Legos. What TRU is doing reminds me of those stores... But minus the overall educational goal.
I'm not holding my breath on longevity here.

Yeah. They have a long road to building up the decades of goodwill that they lost.
