Here's the rumor. We saw them buy Bolder Hill Media last year, and they're the ones doing the new cartoon shows. And it makes sense for them to want a comic company. IDW has run into some financial problems, due to bad investments from subline imprints, and the Hasbroverse line of books didn't sell as well as they had hoped. People are still getting paid, so it's not like Dreamwave and Pat Lee from over a decade ago. With Ryall and others leaving, the thought is that Hasbro may want to buy IDW as their own printing company. They're already fond of the company and with ownership, puts them in an interesting financial and negotiating opportunities with a lot of non-Hasbro properties, like 30 days of Night, Wynonna Earp, Locke and Key... As well as more creative independent comics like The Infinite Loop, Gutter Magic and Star Mage. (All which a fledgling movie production company may want to be involved in.) Not to mention the creative talents that they would acquire to flesh out their own original concepts.
Those are the rumors. Here's what we know, from sources that I can't talk about because we're not behind closed doors. All Hasbro books are to wrap up their storylines. Not just the Hasbroverse guys, but My Little Pony, Littlest Pet Shop, Jem and the Holograms... EVERYTHING. There is talks to be a total reboot from all the series, and Hasbro has been working on this for a while. Like... For the last few years. So certain writers are going to go out and do things with characters that they normally wouldn't and could do before, because all bets are off. So yeah. If it's all true... Kup's actually DEAD. And Megatron actually got a happy ending in another universe.

Megatron got a hand job in a massage parlor? Damn, I really need to get into the IDW books again.

Yeah, but that was from Gigatron in his giant hand mode...so...pretty terrifying actually.

Did I read that right?
A "reboot", you say?

I'll buy TRU.
They'll take a thousand dollars in pennies right?

I should feel really bad about all this...but not really.
The TRU I used to go to as a kid moved to a different location years ago. The two that I grew fond of when I moved to Florida closed down about 9 years ago when the giant TRU/Babies R Us combination monstrosity in the center of town opened up. both old buildings have since been razed and replaced with a bowling alley and a car dealership.
Also, TRU started to loose its shine for me a little over 10 years ago when I went in after Christmas to get the brand new Exo-Force LEGO sets and noticed that they were quite a bit more expensive than I expected. Once I got home I checked the SRP and that was when I was introduced to the TRU Tax. Soon followed the first TRU exclusive LEGO set that was marked-up way above what it should have been ($55 for what was essentially a $40 set). Then the LEGO BOGO sales that I used to plan my annual spending around ceased or became very exclusionary. Then the coupons that excluded LEGO, and eventually Mega Bloks and NECA figures.
That all settled into what had become my TRU shopping-style as of late. Going in, looking around and perhaps picking up a small item here or there and maybe the odd exclusive if it happened to be on sale. I've tended to leave TRU empty-handed more often than not recently. The only big purchases I've made have been with "R" Dollars earned on a TRU credit card from purchases made elsewhere.
I'll miss being able to go into a huge toy store and just look around at all the different offerings and feeling like I did when I was younger...but as a loyal shopper...Toys R Us died ten years ago.

TRU was my only access to Chap Mei proucts in the US, so that blows.
Now, I'm wonering what the outlet for big ticket items like TF Masterpiece and Predaking will be. Hopefully online e-tailers because it would really suck if they started selling all the expensive stuff through the Haslab/Mattycollector/Kickstarter model like Castle Greyskull and that horribly priced Jabba's sail barge.

It's pretty sad to see it go, more so that thousands of people are going to lose their jobs.
That said, I'm wondering if they've started marking down items for clearance yet...
I'm a terrible person...

It was a little under a decade for me too.
Back during when the Generations toys was promoting the War for Cybertron toys, there was a Rage over Cybertron 3 pack, with Bumblebee, Prime and Megatron. Now with previous 3 packs, I expected the price to be roughly $30. After all, the previous 3 pack, from RotF that came with Movie Bee, Ravage and Rampage was $30 and deluxes were retailing about $9.99-10.99 that time. I hadn't gotten any of those guys yet, so when I saw it, I was like "Oh hey. Why not. I got $30 here I can...
$40 FUCKING DOLLARS?!
The price for the three deluxes were $40. And I look up, and on the pegs right above that set were the three original toys... For $11.99. So not only was TRU charging more for the normal Generations toys, but they wanted to charge even MORE for a set of questionable repaints of said same toys. That's when I noticed, as Deino put it, the TRU Tax. Things were overpriced and needlessly so. It didn't help that I could get almost any toy that TRU offered at Target or Wal-Mart and usually for a few bucks less. I understand that there's a few Power Rangers toys which were somewhat exclusive. But yeah. They offered nothing I couldn't get elsewhere. (And heaven forbid I insert Amazon into this equation, because TRU's onlne site was horrid and totally user unfriendly!)
And I think the final straw for me was last year with the Chaos on Velocitron set, which had Nautica, Quickswitch, Laser Rod Optimus Prime, Cloudraker and a Rodimus Prime head. And unlike the BBTS exclusive, I wanted every single one of those guys. I go onto their worthless site, and they say I have to go to the store to order it. So I jump in the car and head up there... I ask about it. After a literal hour (I kept track) of trying to explain what I wanted, showing them on my phone the entry on their stupid website that what I wanted did indeed exist, having them try to figure out how to order something from the distribution center, eventually having them call the distribution center... Just to find out that they had nine in stock there... But for reasons they wouldn't explain, they could not sell me one. It was a TRU exclusive, and they couldn't even manage the whole "sell your customer a toy" part of their business.
I will miss the memories of happier times, but I will not miss what it became.
