Well, that...turned me off from watching it.

Standard formula. Her father will be the authority figure with inside intel from the GCPD. Luke Fox will be the tech/hacker "guy in the chair" and will build his Batwing suit by season 2. Alice is a watered down version of the comics villain just like all the other TV bad guys. Kate will have a love interest that she can't be with because of heroic sacrifice and keeping her loved ones safe and shit. I'm sure they'll be a quirky, supportive best friend in there somewhere.

And since she didn't recognize Alice right away, I'm betting they'll save the sister reveal until either midway through the season, or the finale. Possibly, they'll hint at it at the end of the pilot.
But yeah, maybe they thought they were "getting back" at the jerks who cry every time a female character does something cool, but I think they're just giving them more ammunition with some of that dialogue. Either that, or they were just congratulating themselves for writing a show with this character. But maybe that's just me.

Like, why can't she just be awesome at being Batwoman? Why do you need to beat me over the head with it in the most tacky way possible?

Because as stated before... It's the CW. They're shows designed for teenagers. This one is specifically for teenage girls. We're grown adult males.
Despite the source material, we are not even close to the target demographic here.

I get that...but that doesn't mean the writing has to suck. I might not've been a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but I never felt it was condescending.
Like I said, they must not think much of teenagers. Or girls, either, for that matter.

Yeah sorry Mach, I gotta agree with Sporky on this one. This isn't even about disrespecting the character, it's disrespecting the target audience. And I agree that's not me, but this is like TGIF special episode bad.

No, you don't understand. The writing doesn't have to suck?
Yes. Yes it does.
I hate to sound like a cynical asshat here, but... Well... Legends, Supernatural, Jane the Virgin, Black Lightning and Crazy Ex Girlfriend aside... This is on par with what your average CW show is written like. Shadowhunters, In the Dark, The 100, Roswell (BOTH versions), the Vampire Diaries, In The Dark, Charmed, Reign, The Tomorrow People, Beauty and the Beast, In the Dark... And for that matter? Supergirl and the Flash. I'd include Arrow too, because I'm pretty sure I was hate-watching that show for the last three seasons.
And the good shows I mentioned? Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex Girlfriend are cancelled, Supernatural just go sentenced to the chopping block, Legends is struggling and I have no clue about Black Lightning. But I don't hear a lot of buzz about it, even though it's a great show.
Could it be better? Yes. Should it be better? Yes.
But what possible incentive do they have to do so? This formulaic crap is what sells. *shrugs*
