There's a couple that have a few enhanced controller options iirc (Wanna say Hard Corps, Shinobi III, Vectorman and maaaaybe Beyond Oasis have additional button options), but the two fighting games are the only ones it really MATTERS for, and Eternal Champions is kinda meh anyways.

Finally got around to playing a little of my Genesis before heading in to work. Played some Sonic 1, Altered Beast, Castlevania, and Mega Man to start. First, I love that Castlevania game. But the one thing I noticed, the controls are either a bit more sluggish than I remember or I lost some of my gaming reflexes over the years. It was especially noticeable in Sonic and Mega Man.

Yeah, Bloodlines is a supremely underrated entry in the Castlevania franchise. It's one of my favorite in the series, and Yamane cut her teeth on it before her magnum opus of SotN. The Sinking Old Sanctuary (the Atlantis level theme) is still one of my absolute favorite pieces of gaming music. But as to the control thing, it's probably a bit of both actually I definitely notice my own reflexes aren't quuuuuiiiite as fast as they used to be, but there IS a bit of imput lag on anything over HDMI to modern TVs. Modern games account for it in their code, but old games relied on the fixed refresh rate of CRTs for everything, so there's juust that tiny bit that can mess with muscle memory. I find the NES Classic version of Punchout to the the worst offender, I get my ass kicked by Sandman on that version because of the timing difference.

Most TVs have a "game mode" you can enable which disables some of the image processing it would normally do in order to shorten the response time.
But yeah, Punch Out is known to be essentially unbeatable with any kind of emulation, or on a modern TV. You can get to Tyson, but the frame accurate timing you need to beat him just isn't possible.

I've found that gaming mode doesn't really "feel" right to me with modern games a lot of the times, but I can't really put my finger on what's off. I dunno if it's that most games aren't optimized for it.
Amusingly enough I did once beat Tyson on an emu back when I really got back into NES games, but I'm like 99% certain i still had a CRT back then as it was around like 1999-2000ish.

You could probably do it emulating on a PC. Computer displays are intentionally "dumb", they don't do any processing on the signal because it's expected that the PC is optimizing the image itself. It's really the TV that's more the issue than the emulation as long as the emulation is good.
A hardware based clone (like an Analog NT) attached to an LCD monitor might work, depending on the response time of the LCD.

Yeah,I'm waiting on a full games list for that one as it seems like it's gonna be import only even though it's a Genesis (US naming) with english games? Not willing to spend the markup unless I really like the collection, though some of the early names are really impressive (Shining Force CD, especially).

The fact it has Sonic CD has it on my radar but not enough to pre-order yet. One game that was so terrible that it makes me kinda hope it's on there is Sega CD Jurassic Park. I rented one weekend and got on my did it's suckiness ruin my weekend but it also pissed me off. I hope its on there so I can finally beat it but I doubt Sega will pay licensing for it. If they did, I imagine they would choose the Genesis JP game first.
