Ep 10: Deep Trouble - It’s time for the annual Burns’ family fishing trip! But there’s something more sinister beneath those dark waters than trout or salmon...
Favorite moment: When Heatwave is wrangling the mecha shark & declares that fishing is a beastly, badass sport!
Thoughts: Time for the JAWS tribute! The shark could go either way, but Captain Shaw of the ferry looks exactly like Quint, who was played by Robert Shaw. So that’s funny and awesome. I think this is our first plot heavy episode, adding more to the mystery of this mysterious tech that has been showing up lately. A piece of shrapnel from the defeated shark with Morocco’s logo on it confirms it. But this time instead of dropping little hints, the threat level is really ramping up & we know that whenever we see that “M” logo, it’s bad news now. Also like that even though Chase was quoting rules & orders & all that, he still followed Heatwave’s lead into the ocean. I kinda feel like Chase is on a similar character arc as NuRID Strongarm, in that they both are learning that acting in strict accordance to the letter of the law is not the same as acting in the spirit of the law. We’ll see how it goes with Chase. I know Strongarm had a couple episodes to develop her arc, but then they kinda just left it at that & didn’t do much else with her. She still seemed to be mostly unchanged (I still haven’t seen season 3, so maybe that changes?).
Morocco is coming...
See you next ep!

Ep 11: “Return of the Dinobot” - A shadowy figure sneaks onto Griffin Rock & hacks the central computer, causing all the machinery in town to go berserk, including the Dinobot. Favorite moment: When Chase tells a texting motorist, “If your eyes aren’t on the road, the rest of you soon will be.” Reminded me of this old comparison video between Batman & Superman: Sorry, guys. Chase is officially cooler than you both. Thoughts: I love the eerie vibe of this episode, with Morocco appearing in the fog, barely visible. The mystery of who he is deepens, when Doc Greene reveals that someone has been breaking into his lab, leaving behind tech, & trying to hack the central computer. The final scene, when we see Morocco watching over the Burns & co. confirms that this is our mastermind, when he drops a business card with his logo on it. We learn that Blades is the resident TV-enthusiast. He’s all about getting the team their own reality show. Come to think of it, he was quoting pirate movies in the last ep too, when they were at sea. What a junkie! I blame Cody. And Blades again, scared of flying too fast in the fog. But Dani is perfectly at home, because she’s relying on the instruments instead of her eyes. Just cool to note that this team is still finding its footing despite having ironed out a lot of their issues. I love the shots of Trex stalking about in the fog. He’s suitably creepy. That opening shot of Trex standing behind Frankie was good & creepy. And Trex can dance too! I feel like someone said, “This show needs more dancing dinosaurs,” and so they made it happen. Love it. The big deal with this episode aside from the whole island going crazy, is that once the dust settles, the mayor fires Doc Greene as lead scientist. A somber note to end on, but really lends weight to the kind of threat Doctor Morocco poses. With some scheming, he can cost people their jobs & livelihoods (& potentially their lives based on the damage the bots have had to save people from already). Alright! See you next ep!

The entire cast of the Rescue Bots grows on you so much. The thing is... There's not a wide selection of Transformers cast members here. This show is over 100 episodes long, and not counting aliens, Minicons or the guest appearances from Prime, Bumblebee and Sideswipe... There are NINE Transformers on the show, period. Just nine. They are going to spend the time an develop each and every single one of them for the series... And develop they do.
Chase is awesome.

Sorry the updates have crawled to a standstill. Keeping up with reviews is harder since my paternal leave ended. But we are still watching the show & are almost done with season 2. Only 4 episodes left. Some thoughts so far:
Blades has become more endearing. His tv watching habits have kinda given him some personality beyond just the guy that doesn’t like heights.
Early on I thought Morocco looked like he was from the 1800s or something. And judging by what we learned of him in the season 1 finale, turns out that’s true. So that was cool.
Great to have Tim Curry lend his voice to a TF series. Sad to see him go (due to his health I assume), and the replacement actor they used wasn’t bad. But definitely wasn’t Tim.
Heatwave got his boat mode & that was cool. Need to rewatch that one. I had to leave the room & take care of my little dude.
Charlie Burns’ loser brother made for a pair of good episodes. Turns out the Burns family isn’t all rescue heroes. But he made for a good foil to the usually unflappably Chief.
The toy-centric elements thrown into season 2 were grating on my nerves a little. Specifically the big mobile command center that can teleport & all their glowing blue cyber gear that they have to “power up & energize!” I know it’s a TF show & selling toys is it’s big purpose, but when the show has been more like a real show & barely pimped out the toyline at all, it kinda stings to now see them cramming that stuff in. Thankfully I’ve since mellowed on their inclusion & the rest of the show is barely affected by these things. I don’t even know if the mobile command center is a toy or not. It just came off like some big thing that you’d see on store shelves.
Dani Burns is kinda hot.
Laughed my ass off when Optimus said, “Not much, double dutch.” He’s still as wooden as ever, but they gave him more personality in this show!
Chase developing a sense of humor is the best. That dude’s dry humor is awesome.
So yeah, still an entertaining show. Still liking it. Kinda feels like things are going to get shaken up soon. Hopefully it still maintains the same spirit of the show so far.
Also- saw the rescue academy trailer. Not sure what to think of it yet. That’s gonna be one I’m going to have to just sit down & watch, because the trailers aren’t doing much for me.

The show does retain it's feel throughout. In fact, you're about to get to when the show really kicks in gear.
As for Rescue Bots Academy... I know what you mean. The only thing to remember is that the original trailers for Rescue Bots weren't that impressive either. But yeah... This could really suck too. It's one of those wait and see things.

That’s what I was thinking. Like I don’t want to do a repeat of Rescue Bots, where I ignore Academy until it’s over just because of a lukewarm first impresssion. I do like the designs of all the new characters though, so there’s that. Plus we’re getting the long overdue return of Armada Hotshot, & Whirl looks adorable. There’s some stuff I definitely like already.
Optimus Prime’s look in Academy is monstrous & unsightly though. That neck!! Has he been using cyber-roids or what?! Glad to see Cody will be back.& a little older too. I think that’s the thing I was missing from the trailer; almost zero human interaction. This is the one show where that’s a huge positive factor for me, so to see almost no humans in the trailer seems wrong. But then I think they’re probably just trying to show the cool robo bits, thinking that’s the only thing the kids wanna see. So yeah- definitely going to watch RBA to see for myself.

One last thing- “noble” isn’t the worst catch phrase ever, but it’s still pretty terrible. And then Cody named a dog Noble & everyone was yelling “noble” for an entire ep! They’re trying too hard to force it as some new slang word & it’s just never gonna catch on. But I guess it gives Cody something all his own to say. Noble just ain’t cool.

So I gave up doing the reviews. It was easy when I was on parental leave, but got harder when work started back up. Not to mention we’d plug in a few eps at a time & by the time I was able to get a moment to write something up, I had forgotten specific lines & whatnot.
So anyway!!
I’m down to the last 5 episodes of the show. All the human enemies on the show have been brought to justice or otherwise made their exit. It’s just down to Morocco now & I know he’s coming back for the 2-part finale. He’s earned his spot in my book as the best human villain ever to appear in a TF show or movie.
I did think it was a bit questionable that they erased a lot of Morocco’s memories, so that Jules Vern could attempt to be a better friend to him. Interested to see how that’s going to play out. That’s right up there with the G1 Bots forcibly reprogramming Devastator to work for them & then failing to understand why he wouldn’t want to stay an Autobot. Like, you guys are really surfing that gray wave of morality.
My wife had a total nerd moment when she saw that Alex Kingston is the voice of Quickshadow. She plays River Song in Doctor Who & she loves her, and we’ve met her in person, so she lost it for a minute there. It was great.
That’s all for now. Gonna try to at least get some reviews up for the final five.

And remember, Blurr pops up in NuRiD as well for quite a few episodes, so that's good too.
