I don't see this as pandering to GeeWunners as much as it's putting the superheroes in the costumes, as opposed to a three piece suit, armor or black leather again . Fleetingly had this thought myself, but it never fully developed. Got more caught up in the concept of how characters are constantly reimagined and rebooted these days. But how much can you change the look (costume) and personality, origin, abilities, etc, of a character and have it still be that character? If anything, going back to looks based more on the originals is just pulling the character back on-course after quite a few deviations. Your comment about origins is one I've contemplated (just not about TFs). Let's take a similar property that's been re-imagined about as often as the robots in disguise: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. If they go from random animals that came into contact with science goo to lab animals that came into contact with science goo, very little changes. Make them aliens, and they lose at least half their banner. Change their learning of their ninja skills from being taught by a straight-up ninja master to "they read a single book", that changes stuff more. Or let's look at Batman. I think it's fair to say that the Waynes being shot in a random act of crime has a more profound meaning on Bruce's mission than a mob hit or conspiracy (though Batman Begins kind of had both...Ra's corrupting Gotham subversively, being blocked by Wayne philanthropy, only for a lost soul to randomly pick the Doctor and his wife to mug). Some people don't think origins matter that much, but I disagree. I think little changes can work, be it to an origin or costume, or a variation on a personality, it just needs that core from the source (though the character's iconography is probably a factor). But if you make A LOT of little changes, that becomes one BIG change that may not pan out.

Really liking what I’m seeing. This seems like the breath of fresh air this movie franchise has needed. For the first time since 2007 I’m really excited for a Transformers movie.

I'm just noting that, beyond the basic plot you could've guessed from "Bumblebee-centric prequel", I like that this trailer gives us something new with the Decepticons.
Playing off BB's inability to talk by getting the humans to do their hunting for them and claiming he's a wanted fugitive? It's just the right level of truth to the story to sell the lie. That's CLEVER.

That's CLEVER. I had that same thought too. Not only that, but it give a 'Con actual plot/character development. It's a thinking, crafty, DECEPTIVE machine, not just a prop for hoomaahns to shoot.

*Watches the new Trailer* Cybertron looks like a different film all together and the characters are recognisable. What black magic was used to make this?

International trailer here. Less Cybertron footage, but more plot

The international trailer is so much better.
Also.. actual, out loud gut response:
"Holy shit, that's Optimus Prime."
NOW I'm excited.

Before work this morning at 6:15 AM I'm on TFW looking for the trailer when I scroll past the big screengrab of the Decepticons being lead by Shockwave. At which point I shouted "OH MY GOD!" in a dark and quiet house. Good way to panic the Wife and dog still trying to sleep Ahahahaha That's ok, I know for a fact I woke my neighbors up when I watched it

Interestingly, if Green Boy there is Acid Storm, he's a conehead now
