DC announced the name of its upcoming streaming service as the uninspired "DC Universe". Still no word on price or launch date but here's the initial line up.
We've already discussed Young Justice: Outsiders. No additional information yet.
The Harley Quinn animated series will be loosely based on the Conner/Palmiotti series with showrunners that previously worked on the canceled DC sitcom "Powerless". The series will reportedly feature Joker, Ivy, Clayface, King Shark and Dr. Psycho.
The surprise announcement was a new live-action Swamp Thing series produced by "Aquaman" director James Wan. The show will be written by Mark Verheiden (Ash vs. Evil Dead, Netflix Daredevil) and Gary Dauberman (Annabelle and Steven King's It). Series description...
"CDC researcher Abby Arcane returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus. There, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be gone after all."
The Superman prequel, "Metropolis", which would have centered on Lex and Lois, has been delayed in favor of Swamp Thing.
Now, let's talk about Titans.
The initial images we got from the show seemed promising with some good-looking costumes for Robin and Hawk & Dove.
Then, these on-set photos got leaked and the internet once again lost its collective shit.
Not only is Titans a TV show, it's a TV show being made for a streaming service that has no subscribers yet. They're obviously working with a moderate budget. I also never thought for a minute that they would make the Starfire and Beast Boy actors sit for hours and get painted for every episode. That said, I can't argue with comparisons to Marvel's Inhumans and comments about bad cosplay. Still, this is a Greg Berlanti production, and his DC shows seem to draw their strength more from character interaction than showcasing super powers (Legends of Tomorrow, anyone?). So I'll take the general "wait and see" stance until I can watch it.
